Harvest Festival prevails amid peeper traffic

Calvary Chapel hosts autumnal event

Posted

NEDERLAND — There was a welcome sight on Saturday, September 26 next to Highway 72 in Nederland, among the yellowing leaves and the backed-up traffic of those who come to the mountains to peep: the image of family fun offered at the annual Calvary Chapel Harvest Festival.

This year’s festival highlighted the handmade art, jewelry, and accessories of the Nederland community, as well as of the communities of other cultures supported by the Chapel’s outreach.

Representing the Navajo Community with their beautiful jewelry, custom-made knives, and delicious “Navajo Tacos,” the Begay family returned to Nederland from Arizona. Enjoying their one-of-a-kind fried bread tacos has become an anticipated yearly tradition.

Those with the fortitude to brave the leaf peeper traffic were greeted with the beautiful and bucolic sounds of local guitar legend Tony Crank and flautist Earl Correy. Booths displayed the dynamically vibrant paintings of Beatrice Sullivan, the unique and expertly crafted copper jewelry of Laurie Meyers, the masterful candle work of The 9th House, the masterpieces of 7-year old artist Edie, and the colorful handmade creations of Sadie Stitch Co.

Children of all ages had a great number of games outside to choose from in order to win tickets for prizes and candy. Inside, kids were getting their faces painted by entertainer extraordinaire Suz-Q-Z. Adults shopped for cookbooks and specialty RV dining accessories from Linda Engel; bright and unique hand-woven Ugandan baskets from nonprofit charity Harmony Life International; and custom necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, as well as pottery by Rebecca Wickre of Little Dish Pottery Studio.

A very special thanks to those from the active local church who organized this special and successful event, and to all those who attended, as well as to all those vendors who toil endlessly to share their art, music, and creative wares with this amazing community.

The Calvary Chapel offers contemporary worship on Sundays at 11 a.m. at 275 West 2nd Street (Highway 72) in Nederland. For more information, call 303-258-3502.
