The year was 1981 when singer-songwriter, guitarist, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Richie Furay led a home Bible Study in what today is known as the Calvary Chapel of Nederland.
Throughout its growth, the chapel moved from a home into the old elementary school. One year after its inception, it found a permanent home in its current location. With the help of an ad published in The Mountain-Ear, it has been blossoming under the leadership and guidance of its loving community.
Pastor Doug Gibney became the chapel’s pastor in 1986 and has been preaching there since. The Calvary Chapel of Nederland is not only a place of worship but a location where many can find peace and feel at home.
The chapel isn’t only a church but a pillar of the community, participating in numerous outreaches and ministries, including working together with other churches, preparing and delivering hundreds of food baskets at Christmas, and monthly support for the Community Food Pantry.
The Calvary Chapel has provided lodging, groceries, and gas for many people in need, regardless if they’re traveling through or are residents of the area. Its partnership with Boulder County contributed to more low-income housing, welcoming new neighbors with overflowing baskets of household goods and offers of additional support.
The church also contributes monthly to the Denver Rescue Mission, Compassion Child, Gideons, and SOX place in Denver to name a few. The church’s annual Fall Festival offers old-fashioned outdoor children’s games, crafts, vendor booths, and Navajo Tacos made on-site by its Navajo friends.
Revelation 19, the church’s choir, periodically shares its heavenly sounds at the church. With a history of performing at the annual Christmas Market, senior centers and nursing homes, and other area events, Revelation 19 is a special treat at the chapel.
The choir has contributed time to charity concerts, even traveling as far as the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, and at the request of other churches, has journeyed across the country to perform.
The Calvary Chapel of Nederland offers Adult-Teen Bible Study and Worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. Sunday Worship, Verse-by-Verse Bible teaching, at 11 a.m. – Worship, Verse-by-Verse Bible teaching, and Nursery and Sunday School class are provided.
Join the congregation on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. for prayer. Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. Call the church for dates and times of women’s and men’s Bible Studies.
The chapel is hosting a Good Friday celebration on Friday, April 7, including fellowship, worship, communion, and food. At 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday, a brief Sunrise Service at Barker Reservoir will welcome the entire community for song and scripture, “He is Alive!” Resurrection Service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Revelation 19 Choir.
