NEDERLAND — On August 1 and 2 the Carousel of Happiness in Nederland will be hosting and celebrating George Blevins Days.
Blevins has lived in the Peak to Peak area since the early 1980s. He has worked at the Gilpin Public Library for many decades and continues to today. Blevins used his artistic talent and wit to create cartoons with The Mountain-Ear for almost two decades. We have included one here that was printed on December 1, 1988.
His work was about mountain life and often timeless.
Blevins also helped Scott Harrison sketch the carousel animals at the Carousel of Happiness before Harrison carved them out.
Blevins has done his work under the radar, without fanfare. I wonder what he thinks his legacy or lasting impact is. He is a father, artist, author, librarian, civil rights activist, humorist, and friend.
Celebrate this man of our community at the Carousel of Happiness on August 1 and 2. Blevins will be at the Carousel greeting people and signing books (while supplies last).
The Carousel of Happiness is located at 20 Lakeview Drive, Nederland.
