Sara Sandstrom-Kobi, Nederland. On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, the Boulder Valley School District Working Advisory Group made recommendations to the Boulder Valley School District Board of Education. This advisory team is a group of district leadership, teachers and parents who have been analyzing data with Boulder County Public Health and looking at how the school year will progress. The group made recommendations focused on outdoor education for all students, Kindergarten through second grade return to the classroom and students in the intensive special education program to return to the classroom. The recommendation says that these changes will start on September 29, 2020.
These students are priority because they require a lot more family/adult support to be successful with on line learning.
All students at Gold Hill Elementary and Jamestown Elementary will be returning to in person learning because of their small numbers and internet issues that families face in these areas. Superintendent Dr. Anderson says in the email that was sent to parents that they are exploring ways to expand access to learning at the Nederland schools for the families who do not have access to high speed internet at home.
The next priorities for the advisory group will include looking at the next grade levels in elementary school and then middle and high schools.
With all these changes the districts wants to be very clear that if parents are not comfortable sending their students to school they have the option to continue Home Learning.
We will continue to keep our readers informed of developments in BVSD.
