Arthur DeVitalis, Peak to Peak. When it comes to branching out for customers, High Timber goes the extra mile, vertically. High Timber Firewood & Logging Company has offered tree-trimming expertise and services for decades.
As the “original leader in firewood and fire mitigation services,” the headquarters is located in Nederland. In response to the Covid-19 crisis, the company offered to provide firewood free of charge for those that do not have the means to purchase it. Even before the crisis, the company offered free firewood to those in need when the weather turned cold.
Loggers with large chainsaws in hand are showcased via the company’s Facebook page @HighTimberFirewoodLoggingCo. Climbing the tallest timbers appears to be a pastime for company workers, enough to induce vertigo from the sheer angle and height difference in photos. From utility vehicles and equipment to employees and family members, the company is established in the diverse range of services it provides.
The company started in 1981 and remains a family owned and operated business. The husband and wife team of Phil and Jane Pitzer are the duo behind High Timber.
Phil fought forest fires in Montana, learning much about forestry in the process. Following his work there, he continued with the Colorado State Forest Service and Gold Gate Canyon State Park. There, he ran the logging operation. He started his own firewood and logging company in 1981, with marriage in 1985 cementing the couples’ work together.
High Timber has continued to evolve with the times. According to the owners, “we have helped hundreds of homeowners address and resolve requirements of the insurance companies to bring the homes they insure into compliance with the current fire mitigation codes.”
Forestry services are a key aspect of the business, in addition to property management or land clearing for owners. The Pitzers offer forest management, agricultural tax plans, large and small scale logging, and general clearing. Plant-specific services like Pine and Ips beetle management, and mistletoe treatment are offered. For eager composters, residential and commercial chipping is also available.
When the weather heads farther south, general hauling and snow removal is another service provided. Premium firewood is always in high supply, even for those that prefer it delivered year-round.
Though the company is focused on tree services, excavation, road clearing and some driveway functions are completed regularly by staff.
High Timber is available to serve heating, trimming and clearing needs year-round by calling 303-258-7942, emailing htflpitzer@aol.com, or visiting hightimberfirewood.co.
