Dear Editor,
Logic dictates that when opportunities arise, they should at least be looked into.
The citizens of Nederland have murmured about a second bridge crossing Boulder Creek for many years. Typically and true to Nederland form, these murmurings get shouted down by a vocal minority.
Currently, conditions are becoming aligned again such that it may be possible to obtain a second bridge crossing. This opportunity should be discussed and acted upon if a majority of our citizens approve of the plan.
A second bridge crossing is primarily a safety issue. There is no other way to cross Boulder Creek for many miles. If something were to close the existing bridge, lives could be lost.
Long-standing traffic patterns are not going to change radically, especially considering the growth of Boulder County and the State.
Mud Lake Open Space and the Town Shop Site are examples of what can be achieved with strategic planning.
It is up to us to seize this moment and find a majority citizen consensus about a second confounded bridge.
