The Boulder County Commission approved lifting a no-firearm-discharge area during a meeting on May 14, 2024. Staff proposed amending existing no firearm discharge areas designated in the Sugarloaf community to exclude United States Forest Service property.
Commissioners had several questions, and after their questions, about 10 people provided public comment.
Commissioner Marta said this is a lot of information. It is a complicated issue. The closure is only for recreational shootings.
After an executive session, the Board voted to approve the staff recommendation for approving the no-firearm-discharge area for Sugarloaf Road but permitting shooting in USFS land, and so signage will have to be created.
