The Nederland Board of Trustees (BOT) met on Tues. evening at 7:00 p.m. with ihe full board in attendance:
Mayor Joe Gierlach, Mayor pro tem Kevin Mueller, and Trustees Peter Fiori, Chris Perret, Randy Lee, Ledge Long, and Annette Croughwell. Also present were Town Administrator Alisha Reis, Town Treasurer Eva Forberger, Town Clerk Michele Martin, Town Attorney Carmen Beery, and Public Works Director Jason Morrison.
A contract award for Sustainability Coordinator/Sustainable Design Assistance was approved.
An application for Special Review Use (SRU) for Mixed Uses at 55 Indian Peaks Drive was discussed. The applicant, Peter Fiori, owns the property, which had housed Len's Excavating from 2002 until May 2013. The site is located at the junction of Highway 72 North and Indian Peaks Drive (County Road 128) in north Nederland. Fiori has proposed to use this location for his music production business, Sweetwave Audio, which currently is operating in Louisville. He also proposes to add an assembly space/event venue with room for about 450 occupants between the floor and overhead balcony areas. The 7,500 square foot building was built in 2002 to support an excavation business, which stored large equipment and aggregate materials outside, and had offices and repair shops indoors; a second-floor dwelling unit also exists, which could be converted to more office space. Many community members were on hand to voice comments, which were addressed by Fiori and Town staff. Fiori's proposal was approved.
An ordinance to amend Nederland Municipal Code Chapter 6 to adopt a new section related to the recreational marijuana licensing was introduced by Town Administrator Alisha Reis, who covered many aspects of the topic, including compliance with state law, zoning, licensing, financial and enforcement practices. The issue was discussed by Board members, and will be the subject of a public hearing scheduled for the Aug. 20tht BOT meeting, at which members of the public will be given full opportunity to voice their concerns and opinions.
The meeting adjourned at 10:59 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Nederland Board of Trustees will be on Tues. Aug. 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center.
