The Nederland Board of Trustees gathered for their second meeting of the month on April 17, 2018 at the Community Center. The meeting was briefer than usual and consisted mostly of goodbyes to members of the board and the swearing-in of those serving another term.
Mayor Kristopher Larsen was successfully sworn in for another term, along with board member Alan Apt. Julie Gustafson was appointed as the new Mayor Pro Tem, replacing Charles Wood. Before taking his oath, Larsen offered his thanks to those leaving the board. Topher Donahue and Kevin Mueller wrapped up their terms along with Mayor Pro Tem Wood.
“I have to say, hands down, this has been the most pleasant board to work with,” said Larsen. “I’m really going to miss the three of you leaving us tonight.”
Mayor Larsen will be holding public forums, or “office hours” as he referred to them, in order to communicate the board’s upcoming activities to the community. The details of such events will be posted on the Mayor’s social media pages.
As for other town business, a representative from the Community Center informed the board that after May 1st, the Community Center will no longer be open on Sundays. This is due to extremely low demand on those days and the staff’s inability to accommodate that.
The board discussed the next steps for the Boulder County IGA. In its current form, Nederland’s board believes the IGA does not adequately address the concerns of the town of Nederland. Because of this, the board will request that their May 8th meeting with the county is postponed, allowing the IGA to be reviewed further.
The board also discussed consideration of ordinance 784, amending mixed use. The purpose of the ordinance is “to eliminate barriers to mixed use development in the commercial zoning districts, which includes the central business district (CBD), neighborhood commercial district (NC), and general commercial district (GC).” The ordinance passed unanimously.
