Black Hawk Police reports: January 2023

On 1/1/23, at approximately 1:29 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the 7th floor of the Monarch Casino parking garage for a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Officers arrived on scene and determined that there were no injuries. The driver of the vehicle stated that he was not paying attention when he struck a female party with his vehicle. The driver was issued a Gilpin County summons for careless driving. 

On 1/1/23, at 8:46 a.m., Black Hawk Police officers assisted Gilpin County Sheriff's deputies on a physical domestic incident involving a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle at Highway 119 and Main Street. The domestic dispute started at Highway 119 and Smith Hill Road. The officer remained on scene and assisted the deputies with their investigation. A male subject was arrested.

On 1/1/23, an officer responded to the Lady Luck parking garage,for a vehicle break-in. A report was taken.

On 1/1/23, at approximately 8:46 p.m., officers responded to the Monarch Casino on a report of a found wallet with a white powdery substance. The owner of the wallet was located and issued a summons.

On 1/2/23, officers responded to a report of a patron being threatened at the Monarch Casino. The party was interviewed and declined to cooperate. The male party that made the threats was later contacted and determined to be having a mental health crisis and was transported to the hospital. 

On 1/2/23, officers responded to a report of a theft at the Ameristar Casino. Dispatch advised a male party had stolen a server's tip. Officers responded and later learned the same male party also stole an unknown amount of money from a tip jar. The male was contacted and issued a municipal summons for theft. 

On 1/2/23, dispatch was notified that a party with a possible felony warrant was at the Monarch Casino. Officers responded and were advised that the female party was now walking on Main Street. Officers cleared the female party and found she had a felony warrant out of Denver. The female was transported to the jail on her warrant. 

On 1/2/23, an officer responded to the Horseshoe parking garage for a damaged property incident. A report was taken. 

On 1/2/23, at approximately 12 p.m., the Ameristar Casino received threatening texts made against the 1/5 casino. A possible suspect was identified and a report was taken. The investigation is ongoing. 

On 1/3/23, at approximately 7 a.m., officers from the Black Hawk Police Department responded to a non-injury traffic accident on Highway 119 and Main Street. Neither of the drivers or passengers needed medical attention. Both vehicles had minor damage. One of the drivers was issued a municipal summons and insurance information was exchanged. 

On 1/3/23, at approximately 8:56 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of theft. Officers contacted the victim and are attempting to identify a suspect. 

On 1/3/23, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Black Hawk officers were in the area of the 100 block of Main Street when a vehicle matching a description of that of a female theft suspect as well as a male welfare check was located. Officers stopped the vehicle and transported a male to the police department for Violation of a Protection Order. 

On 1/4/23, a report of lost or stolen property was made. The reporting party stated he stashed his bag of "arrowheads" in a black trash bag behind the electrical box next to the pavilion and Bull Durham while he went into the casino to gamble, and it was missing when he returned. There is currently no evidence to determine if the items were actually stolen. 

On 1/4/23, officers responded to the 400 block of Main Street on the report of a missing and damaged light pole in front of the Monarch Casino. No suspect has been identified. 

On 1/5/23, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of a physical disturbance. Two males were identified and charged on related charges.

On 1/5/23, at approximately 4:50 p.m., officers responded to the Ameristar Casino on the report of a theft. The report was determined to be unfounded. 

On 1/6/23, at approximately 12:06 a.m., Black Hawk officers responded to the Horseshoe Casino at the request of the Black Hawk Fire Department. Upon arrival, a male party was transported to the hospital due to medical concerns. The male had a dog in his room and had no one to come take care of it. Officers transported the dog to a shelter until the owner could come and recover the dog. 

On 1/6/23, the Black Hawk Police Department responded to a single-vehicle accident on Lake Gulch Road with no injuries. A report was taken. 

On 1/6/23, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers received a phone report regarding a possible missing adult. 

On 1/6/23, officers responded to the Monarch Casino located on the report of a wallet theft. 

On 1/6/23, the Black Hawk Police Department Dispatch Unit received a call from the Bull Durham Casino in regards to a person of interest. The person of interest was spotted at the Bull Durham but was observed going to the Z Casino. This person had an active warrant out for their arrest. They were contacted and arrested at the Z Casino. During the search multiple documents were found in this person's possession which led to new charges. An arrest was made, a summons was issued, and a report was taken. 

On 1/7/23, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Ameristar Casino on a 911 call of a female reporting her boyfriend hitting her in their hotel room. Officers responded and made contact at the hotel room. Officers arrested and charged the male with assault. He was later booked into the Gilpin County Jail. 

On 1/7/23, at approximately 12:56 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of a physical disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the victim who said there was a physical altercation with two male parties. Officers took the victim's statement and reviewed the surveillance footage. Officers were able to track the two male parties to the Monarch Casino but were unable to locate them. The case is still ongoing. 

On 1/7/23, at approximately 3:09 a.m., Black Hawk officers responded to the area of Main Street and Miners Road. Dispatch advised they had gotten a 911 call and it was tracked to the area. The officer located the individual who called. The male reported a physical altercation between his family members. Officers were able to contact two involved parties who were the victims. They did not want to press charges on their own family; just wanted to make a report. 

On 1/7/23, at approximately 1:52 p.m., the Black Hawk Police Department responded to Main Street and Miners Road on a report of a traffic accident with injuries. The at-fault driver was issued a penalty assessment. 

On 1/8/23, officers responded to the Monarch Casino in regards to an ID check. A report was taken and a fake ID was confiscated. 

On 1/8/23, at 10:36 p.m., Black Hawk Police Department was dispatched to Monarch Casino on the report of a credit card fraud. The credit card was later found, and a police report was taken. 

On 1/9/23, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Black Hawk Police Department responded to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of money theft. The suspect was identified, cited, and report was taken. 

On 1/9/23, Black Hawk Police officers were dispatched to the Monarch Hotel on a report of two individuals trespassing in a hotel room. A male and female were contacted, identified and issued summonses. 

On 1/9/23, the Black Hawk Police Department was dispatched to Richman Street on a welfare check. Upon arrival, medics were dispatched and a male party was transported to Lutheran Hospital for a mental health evaluation. 

On 1/10/23, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of a male party pouring himself drinks at the poker room bar. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the male party. Officers determined that the male party was intoxicated and were informed by Horseshoe staff that the male party was seen on surveillance pouring himself 7-8 shots. The male party was issued a summons for theft and then transported to Detox. Detox refused to take the male party and the male party was then transported to Lutheran Medical Center. 

On 1/10/23, at approximately 10:46 a.m., the Black Hawk Police Department was dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of a suspicious person. Officers arrested the male suspect on two warrants. 

On 1/10/23, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers responded to the Monarch Casino on a report of a suicidal party. Upon arrival, officers discovered the party had already left the Monarch two hours prior to arrival. The party's last known location was in Aurora. 

On 1/10/23, at approximately 9:39 p.m., the Black Hawk Police Department officers were dispatched to the South Lady Luck parking lot on the report of a hit-and-run. A report was filed and investigation is pending. 

On 1/10/23, at approximately 10:26 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of damaged property that occurred on 12/30/22. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to casino staff who stated that a male party broke a slot machine on 12/30/22. Casino staff informed officers that they flagged the male party account and he was seen playing. Officers watched surveillance footage of the incident and issued the male party a summons for damaged property. 

On 1/12/23, at approximately 7:19 a.m., an officer was completing an area check at the KMM parking garage and located a stolen vehicle. 

On 1/12/23, two individuals were contacted after being seen leaving the area of a recovered stolen vehicle. The subjects were positively identified per the request of the investigating officer. The female had an active warrant out of Lakewood PD that was initially deemed active at our location. It was later discovered they would not confirm its validity, and the female was released on no charges. 

On 1/12/23, the Black Hawk Police Department responded to the Ameristar Casino to take possession of a firearm that had been left in a hotel room by a guest. The owner has been identified and contacted. A report was taken. 

On 1/12/23, officers were dispatched to the Ameristar Hotel in regards to a disturbance. A male and female party were seen having a physical altercation. An arrest was made, a summons issued, and a report taken. 

On 1/13/23, at approximately 11:44 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to a fight at the Monarch Casino. The fight was in the parking garage. Upon arrival, officers contacted the involved parties, but nobody wanted to press charges. All parties were released at the scene. 

On 1/13/23, at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop at 4500 Highway 119, however the vehicle failed to stop. No suspect was identified. 

On 1/14/23, officers responded to the Ameristar Casino in regards to missing property. Someone lost their car in the garage. However, the vehicle was found in the Ameristar garage during the investigation. The case number was issued in error. 

On 1/14/23, at approximately 4:58 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of a stolen iPhone. Officers contacted the victim who provided suspect information. The case still remains active. 

On 1/14/23, the Black Hawk Police department responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch near Hughesville Road and Highway 119. The vehicle was located in Gilpin County Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction. The Black Hawk Police Department remained on scene as the Gilpin County Sheriff's Office conducted a DUI investigation.

On 1/14/23, at approximately 12:36 p.m., an officer contacted a male party who resembled a suspect in an active case. The male party was not the suspect but did have warrants and narcotics and was booked into the Gilpin County Jail. 

On 01/14/23, officers assisted Aurora Police with an attempt to locate by towing a vehicle located inside the Bally's parking structure located at 255 Main Street. 

On 1/14/23, officers responded to the Horseshoe Casino in regards to a theft. The theft occurred at the Lady Luck Casino. The suspect was observed on surveillance and contacted. The suspect returned the money and the money was then returned to the victim. Charges will not be filed against the suspect. A report was taken. 

On 1/14/23, an officer responded to the Monarch on the report of damaged property. A summons for the damaged property was issued. 

On 1/14/23, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of a theft. The officer contacted the victim to get more information. The female suspects can be seen taking a bag of items but have not been identified. 

On 1/15/23, officers responded to the Ameristar Casino on the report of a physical disturbance. A female was arrested for harassment (DV). 

On 1/15/23, at approximately 10:20 a.m., Black Hawk officers responded to The Ameristar Casino on a report of found property. The item was retrieved and booked into evidence. 

On 1/15/23, at approximately 10:34 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of a physical disturbance between staff members. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to both the victim and the suspect. The suspect was charged with Disturbing the Peace due to a lack of evidence and 

On 1/15/23, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers were dispatched to Monarch Casino on the report of a possible disturbance occurring on the gaming floor. Officers arrived and upon investigation, found the claim to be unfounded.

On 1/16/23, a Black Hawk police officer took a report on a vehicle break-in at the Lady Luck parking garage. Surveillance at the Horseshoe informed that there is no camera coverage where the vehicle was parked. At this time there is no suspect information but the case will remain open for further investigation.

On 1/16/23, an officer responded to the Horseshoe parking garage for a vehicle break-in. A report was taken.

On 01/16/23, at approximately 11:25 a.m., Black Hawk officers responded to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of a forgotten handgun in a hotel room. The handgun was retrieved and booked into safekeeping to be released back to the owner.

On 1/16/23, at approximately 11:11 p.m., the Black Hawk Police Department was dispatched to Ameristar Casino on the report of a trespassed party. Upon arrival, officers cited the known male and escorted him off the property.

On 1/17/23, an officer with the Black Hawk Police Department took a report of a damaged railing bar at the Gregory Street Plaza.

On 1/17/23, at approximately 11 p.m., a party reported a cold hit and run to Black Hawk Police officers that occurred on 1/14/23 at the Ameristar Casino Parking Garage. A male suspect was later identified and a summons was issued.

On 1/18/23, at approximately 2 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers responded to the Monarch Casino in reference to a possible fraudulent activity call. Officers spoke with several people at the casino who advised a male subject was given a substantial amount of money under false pretenses and never gave the money back. The suspect has continued to try to obtain more money from the victims through wire transfers and cash apps. The suspect was identified and the investigation is ongoing.

On 1/17/23, a party called in a phone report of a theft of his cell phone from the Monarch gaming floor. Monarch surveillance was able to identify two suspects. The investigation is ongoing.

On 1/18/23, at approximately 11:22 a.m., officers responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of a cold vehicle break-in. A suspect has not been identified.

On 1/18/23, at approximately 3:37 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers responded to the Horseshoe Casino on the report of a flagged player's account. Officers did not have a pending case against the individual but the individual had outstanding warrants. She was arrested and taken to the jail.

On 1/19/23, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of a female party threatening a male. The two parties were separated for the night and the male was issued a summons for VPO.

On 1/18/23, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Ameristar Casino on a report of property damage. Officers arrived and were informed the suspect was no longer on scene. Ameristar surveillance provided suspect information. The case is still active.

On 1/18/23, damage was discovered to a marked patrol vehicle; it was unknown how it occurred. Investigation into the damage revealed a Casino Bus (Ramblin) struck the unattended patrol vehicle while they were on a call for service and left the scene. The case remains active.

On 1/19/23, a female party contacted the Black Hawk Police Department to report suspicious phone calls where a party attempted to gain access to her online accounts by posing as legitimate businesses. A report was taken.

On 1/19/23, the Black Hawk Police Department responded to the Monarch Casino on a report of a disturbance involving two adult males and an adult female. An investigation was conducted, and the parties involved declined to pursue charges. A report was taken.

On 1/19/23, at approximately 9:36 p.m., officers responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of harassment. The crime was determined unfounded.

On 1/20/23, at approximately 3:07 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on a report of found drugs. Officers collected the drugs. No suspect was located due to where the drugs were found. The drugs were booked in for destruction.

On 1/20/23, officers responded to the Lodge Casino valet on the report of a vehicle stolen out of valet. The case is active, and no suspect has been identified yet.

On 1/20/23, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Ameristar Casino to a 911 call from a male reporting his wife hitting him. Officers responded and contacted both male and female parties. Officers arrested a female on domestic violence harassment charges.

On 1/20/23, at approximately 3:43 p.m., officers responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of a male party trespassing on the property. A male suspect was contacted and issued a citation.

On 1/20/23, at approximately 10:13 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Horseshoe Casino on a report of a male threatening another male. Officers contacted both parties and based on the investigation nobody was charged in the case.

On 1/21/23, officers responded to the Ameristar Casino on the report of a male head-butting a female. A male was arrested for harassment (DV) and taken to Gilpin County Jail.

On 1/21/23, at approximately 9:03 p.m., officers responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of a fake ID. The ID card was seized.

On 1/22/23, Black Hawk officers responded to the Gilpin Casino on the report of a trespassed male party on the property. The male party had an outstanding warrant and was transported to the Gilpin County Jail. The trespass was still active and the male party was also issued a summons for trespassing.

On 1/22/23, a Black Hawk police officer responded to the Monarch Hotel on a report of found ammunition. The ammunition was picked up and booked into evidence for found property.

On 1/22/23, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Ameristar Casino on a report of a stolen phone. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the suspects. Both suspects denied taking the phone despite being seen on surveillance. The phone was not located and both suspects were issued a summons for theft.

On 1/23/23, at approximately 1 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers responded to the Monarch Casino on a report of a found firearm. Officers seized the firearm and contacted the owner of the firearm. 

On 1/23/23, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers were requested by Monarch Casino staff to assist with an intoxicated female on the floor in one of their restrooms located on the casino floor. Officers were able to enter the restroom and get the female off the floor. Medics were called and she was reunited with her family. 

On 1/24/23, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Black Hawk Police officers responded to 240 Main Street on the report of an intoxicated party refusing to leave the property. Upon arrival, officers escorted the male party off the premises. Black Hawk officers responded two additional times for the party re-entering the property, and transported him to Jefferson Detox Center. 

On 1/25/23, at approximately 11:17 a.m., Black Hawk Police officers were dispatched to the Lady Luck Hotel on the report of a party in a hotel room who had previously been 86ed. Officers escorted that male party off the property and assisted him with getting a bus ticket. 

On 1/26/23, a woman called the Black Hawk Police Department to report her cell phone had been stolen while she was at the Monarch Casino on 1/21/23. 

On 1/26/23, an officer responded to the Horseshoe Casino on the report of a stolen wallet. A suspect was identified and will be issued a summons for theft. 

On 1/26/23, at approximately 9:12 p.m., Black Hawk officers located a vehicle with stolen license plates at the Monarch Casino. Officers recovered the plates and are still attempting to identify a suspect. 

On 1/27/23, Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Horseshoe Casino on a trespassed individual. The individual was issued a citation. 

On 1/27/23, an officer responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of found drugs on the gaming floor. A suspect was identified and will be issued a summons for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. 

On 1/27/23, the Black Hawk Police Department responded to the Monarch Casino to investigate a report of the theft of a purse. While en route, they were advised that the purse had been located, but that money was still missing. The suspect was located, identified, and charged with the theft. 

On 1/27/23, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Black Hawk officers were dispatched to the Lodge Casino on a report of a stolen jacket. Officers contacted the victim and later reviewed surveillance. A female suspect is seen taking the coat and officers are working to identify her. 

On 1/27/23, officers responded to the Monarch Casino in regards to an ID check. The Monarch staff checked the ID of someone and discovered it was fake. The ID was confiscated and a report was taken. 

On 1/27/23, an officer responded to the Monarch Casino on the report of an intoxicated party. The party was trespassed from the property and issued a summons for violating a protection order. 

On 1/28/23, officers were approached by a male who lost his wallet. A report was taken pending a review for the wallet by surveillance. 

On 1/28/23, at approximately 7:51 a.m., an officer responded to the area of the Gilpin Casino valet on a report of a light pole that was knocked down by a Gilpin Casino employee. 

On 1/28/23, an officer responded to the Ameristar Casino on the report of an intoxicated party. The male party was given a courtesy ride to the Coyote Motel, where he got a room. 

On 1/29/23, at approximately 1:24 p.m., officers responded to the Lady Luck Hotel on the report of a lost or stolen wallet. A suspect was not identified and a report was taken. 

On 1/29/23, the Black Hawk Police Department took a phone report on a damaged property that occurred at 245 Main Street, inside the Dakota Parking Lot. An unknown party attempted to steal the reporting party's Cadillac converter but was unsuccessful. There were no eyewitnesses, and no current leads. 

On 1/29/23, at approximately 11:16 p.m., an officer responded to the Monarch Casino on a call of a counterfeit $100 bill. The officer spoke with the casino patron, who said she was given the $100 bill from her daughter. There is no further information at this time. 

On 1/30/23, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the Lodge Casino to speak to a party who was claiming he was assaulted in his hotel room earlier that morning at the Ameristar Hotel. The investigation led to a warrant being filed against a female who was with the reporting party. A report was taken. 

On 1/30/23, Black Hawk Police officers were dispatched to the Monarch Casino on the report of found drugs in an unoccupied hotel room. The drugs were booked into evidence and investigation is pending. 

On 1/30/23, at approximately 4:45 p.m., officers responded to Highway 119 mile marker six on a one-vehicle accident. There were no injuries, and the only damage was to the vehicle. 

On 1/31/23, a Black Hawk officer was dispatched to the Ameristar Casino on a found firearm inside a hotel room safe. The firearm was booked into evidence for safekeeping. 

On 1/31/23, an officer received a phone theft report from the Monarch Casino. A report was taken. 

On 1/31/23, Black Hawk Police officers responded to the Monarch Casino to the sixth level of the parking garage on a report of a theft from a vehicle. The victim's driver's side window was busted and a white leather coat was stolen from the interior of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle has been identified, and an investigation is pending.
