Chris Wooley, fire chief and emergency manager for the Black Hawk Fire Department, received the 2021 Training Officer of the Year award in 2021 through the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, which is under the Colorado Department of Public Safety.
Wooley, who lives in Highlands Ranch, has been the fire chief for Black Hawk since June 2018. Wooley grew up in New Jersey and came to Colorado in 1995.
He has a master’s degree in emergency services management and is a graduate of the national fire academy’s executive fire officer program. He has been designated as a chief fire officer and a chief training officer by the Commission on Professional Credentialing.
He said the key component of winning the award was his development of a State Fire Officer 3 curriculum for the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, which was a 40-hour class for executive fire certification officers through the division.
