Being a mom

PEAK PERSPECTIVES

Posted

Mama, mommy, mother, mom, bruh - I have been called all these names in my years as a mom. I will admit the last one threw me a bit and there was a calm and interesting conversation with my teenage son about what that was all about.

Being mom and when I pause long enough to think about being a mom I am left surrounded with a mix of emotions. Parenting is joyful and funny. Parenting is difficult and overwhelming. I have dealt with what no parent should ever have to deal with and, at the same time, I have two fantastic kids who bring a smile to my face every day.

I love them unconditionally. One is a teenager and the other is almost a preteen and we are going to walk this rocky emotional road together…and make it through together.

I hope they learn from my weaknesses, because I know I am not doing this perfectly. There are days I wonder what planet we are on, and other days it is smooth sailing. I love that they are growing up, but there are days I long for their silly little games and dances, and “Mommy, sing me one more song before bed, please.”

On Mother’s Day it is wonderful to celebrate moms, including my own mom. I also want to celebrate the kids who made me a mom. I love you dearly.
