Barbara Hardt, Nederland. Nederland Middle Senior High School certainly knows how to celebrate the amazing community that contributes to the school in so many facets. The gym was packed for the games and packed for the presentation. The crowd, full of Gilpin and Nederland locals, shared their enthusiasm and love for “a life well lived”.

The Barbara Lawlor Memorial Plaque was dedicated at the Nederland vs. Gilpin basketball game on Thursday, February 14, 2019. The plaque is to honor the thirty-six years Barbara covered the schools and the region for The Mountain-Ear newspaper. Barbara loved getting to know each student and found creative ways to showcase each of them during their Nederland or Gilpin school years. From sports to plays, preschool to high school graduations, and everything in between.
Donations at the door of the presentation equaled $573.50, taking the total of the scholarship fund above $2k.

Barbara Lawlor IS community. The Mountain-Ear is proud to have had her on staff for so many decades and continues to honor her with the Barbara Lawlor Memorial Journalism Scholarship. The scholarship will be presented to a Nederland and a Gilpin graduating senior this May. The first scholarship will be $1k per student and all students pursuing a degree in journalism (any journalistic medium) are encouraged to apply.
We are proud to continue the love of journalism and photography that Barbara shared with us for so many years with the next generation.
