Cherokee Blake, Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office. On August 7, 2020, a member of the US Forest Service located a vehicle on Forest Service Road 716.1, Gilpin County, Colorado, that was associated with a missing person, Jose Aranda (65), out of Aurora, Colorado. An initial search of the area was conducted, followed by multiple additional searches over a period of several weeks, in an attempt to locate Mr. Aranda. The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in these searches by members of the Alpine Search & Rescue, Jefferson County Canine Unit, and community volunteers. The searches were unsuccessful in locating Mr. Aranda.
On September 16, 2020, Hunters located a deceased person in the area near Nyes Mine and Elk Park and notified the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office. Upon further investigation and forensic examinations, the deceased party was identified as Mr. Aranda. No foul play is suspected, and the cause of death has been reported as undetermined.
