On August 2, two Nederland officers drove past the Nederland Visitors' Center and noticed a man sitting on the bench and drinking from a clear bottle that appeared to contain alcohol. When the officer spoke to the man he became confrontational and appeared intoxicated. He had the bottle in his right front pocket. When the officer tried to remove it, the man grabbed the officer's wrist and pushed his arm away. The officers wrestled the man to the ground, handcuffed him and put him back on the bench. He began yelling obscenities.

The Nederland Fire Protection District EMTs arrived to check out a cut on the man's arm and he became confrontational with them. AMR arrived. The man was found to have a warrant for Failure to Appear on a Drinking in Public charge. The man was placed in a belly chain and taken to the Boulder County Jail.

On August 3, an officer was stopped by a man who was in a panic, saying someone had kidnapped his dog. He said the dog was in his truck, which had an Alabama license, and a woman saw an elderly female place the dog in her vehicle and leave the scene. The officer aired the description of the driver and the vehicle and the dog, a black lab with a white chest. Witnesses said a group of people became concerned about the welfare of the dog, who had been in the secured truck for 45 minutes.

One man opened the small window on the cab of the vehicle and let the dog out. At that time the unidentified female took the dog and left, saying she was taking it to the Longmont Humane Society. The officer determined that adverse conditions existed inside the vehicle for any animal with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Later, on August 4, the woman who took the dog came to the PD saying the dog had been in an abusive situation. The woman said it had not been her intention to deprive the owners of possession of the animal The owners were educated about the law protecting animals and dog license requirements. The owners purchased a license and the case was closed.

On August 8, officer responded to a report of theft. A woman said that she had left her silver iPod with 16 gigabytes of memory on a charging dock in the community room. When it started to rain people from the neighborhood, including some transients, came inside to stay dry. When everyone left she noticed her iPod was missing. There are no leads or suspects.

On August 11, a man came to the NPD to report that he had been assaulted by a friend’s stepfather. The man and his friend wrote out a report. The BC Sheriff's Deputy went to the friend's house to talk to the suspect, who was on his way to the police station. The stepfather had said he didn't want freeloaders around the house. He ran at the victim and hit him in the face and upper body a couple of times. Witnesses say the victim ran outside and the suspect picked up a piece of flagstone and threatened to hit him.

The stepfather was taken into custody and transported to jail.

On August 10, a person entering the NPD said someone had smashed the glass out of the window at his business and taken a Zune Microsoft MP3 player and a Bushnell outdoor digital camera and containers of chicken, beef, and hot links. When officers arrived they saw the shattered glass, the dislodged window screen, anda  blue, right-handed rubber glove.

Inside the building, the officer saw a large rock on the countertop and shards of glass on the counter and inside the sink. The officer planned to review the security tape from the business next door. There are no suspects at this time.

On August 12, a Nederland resident reported that someone had loosened the lug nuts on his Subaru, that he had been driving in Boulder and the brake pedal went soft and then all the way to the floor. He said he thought the cap to the brake fluid reservoir had failed. He found one lug nut on the right front was missing and decided to remove the wheel and check the brakes. The lug nuts were not as tight as they should have been and fresh brake fluid was leaking from where the brake hose and caliper join. The connection was loose. He tightened the hose, filled the brake fluid and drove home.

The man believes someone tampered with the vehicle overnight. He said there are some people who don't care for him because he speaks his mind. The officer suggested he look for the missing lug nut and install a camera system to monitor his vehicles. There are no leads at this time.

On August 11, a hit and run accident was reported to the NPD. The incident took place at the corner of First Street and Hwy 119. The victim had pain on his right side, shoulder, and rib cage. The man said he was crossing the street when a white SUV entered the crosswalk and struck him. The suspect continued north and then onto Boulder Canyon Drive. The victim was evaluated by Ned medics. He refused to go to the hospital. The suspect was not located. The case remains open.

On August 15,  a Nederland police officer noticed a vehicle parked on West 3rd Street. A male was sleeping in the green minivan. He said he was waiting to speak to a church pastor. He said he was working with the church to get his vehicle registered. He came up with a driver's license that was suspended, so the officer game him a summons for unlawful acts, for camping within the town limits.

On August 18, two officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a business. When they arrived at the scene the owner of the store said the man had stolen some Claritin. The suspect said he forgot the Claritin was in his pocket. The owner of the store wished to prosecute and the man was issued a summons to appear for theft charges.

On August 18, a man came into the NPD and told an officer a man in a red van with a gray stripe parked on Big Springs Drive was dealing drugs. The alleged dealer did not own the van and was not driving it. The witness had been approached by the suspect to buy some drugs.  The man said he had to get cash and came to the PD. He said the suspect was wanted on a warrant and was usually parked at the West Magnolia campgrounds and was seen selling drugs in Nederland.

The suspect was found in a nearby grow store. Two dogs were found in the van. The suspect gave an incorrect name, but the officers discovered he had a warrant out of Westminster. A search of the suspect resulted in finding a large amount of cash, and a search of his backpack yielded a large jar of marijuana concentrate and edibles packaged for sale. The man was arrested and handcuffed and transported to jail. He was charged with knowingly and unlawfully possessing and distributing a controlled substance and criminal impersonation, as well as being wanted on a FTA.

On August 21, a woman walked in to the NPD and reported a burglary at her residence. The officer asked her to fill out her statements in detail as to the value of the items taken. She said she would return the list the next day.  A week later the officer called to see if she had finished the paperwork and she said she had to leave town on a family emergency but would get back to him when she returned.

On August 24, a woman reported that her estranged boyfriend entered her place of business and harassed her, cornering her against a bookshelf and pointing a finger in her face. The officers found the man and arrested him for Harassment with a Domestic Violence enhancer.
