Dear Editor,
I’m writing in response to your recent coverage regarding the BVSD administrative changes published in the April 10 issue. Chris Kelley's article accurately reflects the concerns of those in the community who are upset with the district’s process and those who oppose Caleb Melamed’s appointment— however, it falls short in representing the full spectrum of community voices.
There are many who are supportive of this decision, who see promise in having stable leadership and are hopeful about the direction it could take our schools. There are also those who remain cautiously curious—individuals who came to the meetings with open minds and unanswered questions, many of which went unaddressed due to the meeting’s disruptions.
What’s most disappointing, however, is the lack of diverse representation under the “Community Response” section. This portion of the article quotes just ONE parent. Our community deserves better than a one-dimensional portrayal of such an important issue. A broader, more balanced representation of perspectives would better serve not only your readers but most importantly our children.
Sincerely,
Diana Underhill
