Dear Editor,
I read with interest your article about the County Commissioner’s “tour” of the Walstrum Quarry recently.
Your article paints a very pretty picture of the proposed expansion of the current Frei Quarry but you really ought to investigate the other side of the story. Frei did not notify any of the neighbors who are just east of there in Jefferson County and by the time our Resident’s Association found out about it, the supposed comment period was closed and we were unable to voice our concerns. The previous expansion vastly increased the amount of trucks hauling from the quarry down Highway 6 causing dust and accidents on that narrow and heavily traveled road let alone all of the wear and tear on the roads from these heavy trucks. The residents near the quarry constantly report dust and a scarred landscape.
Your reports should get the whole story and not just the rosy picture painted by Frei and Sons.
