An accidental meeting of musical proportions

One of my favorite places to listen to music, eat, and share an adult beverage with friends is in Estes Park. I promise to write about it soon. That place is where I bumped into a couple of gentlemen who play some of my favorite songs.

Geoff Clark is a southern Louisianan with a background in geographic information systems (GIS) and land surveying. He grew up in a musical family, during which he was exposed to an array of music genres, influencing his eclectic taste in music.

Clark is a guitarist, songwriter, and singer, blending Americana, alt-country, Irish folk, and rock into a unique style. He started playing guitar 28 years ago, leading to playing in Louisiana and Washington, DC. In 2018, he began singing lead vocals when he started playing regularly at the Rock Inn Mountain Tavern in Estes Park. He has been living in Estes Park for seven years.

Steve Tice is a retired software engineer who has lived in central New Jersey, upstate New York, Boston, and Austin. Tice began his musical journey in middle school when he played French horn, followed by bass guitar and singing in high school groups.

Tice spends most of his time “practicing, promoting, recording, and thinking about music.” He joins Clark on stage, playing bass and singing. Steve and his wife, Peggy, have been residing in Estes Park for three years. He is “fortunate to play bass with Billy Bower Band, Cowboy Brad and the TropiCowboy Band, Magic Dragon, and Oratorio Society of Estes Park.”

Clark and Tice met through a mutual friend and played a few songs together. The duo found themselves discussing musical goals. Before they knew it, they were successfully playing together as Random and True. They share: “The inspiration for forming a duo was to make a bigger and more interesting sound than an artist can create alone. The band name comes from the vocabulary of land surveying.”

Aside from music, Clark enjoys biking and touring our beautiful state, and says, “I simply enjoy working hard to become a better singer and guitarist, while having the opportunity to share music with people.” Tice “loves the chance to make a special connection with new and old friends.”

Random and True is almost exclusive to Estes Park and, in my opinion, worthy of making the trip from anywhere to hear them play! From Americana and rock to Irish, folk, country, and classical music, Random and True is sure to play something everyone loves.
