ALLENSPARK — Many artists choose more than a single medium because inspiration rarely arrives speaking just one language. Some stories ask for paint, others for words or movement, or the quiet magic of a puppet brought to life.

Each medium reveals a different truth, offering another way into an artist’s world, deep into something others can see and feel. To create across many forms is simply to follow curiosity wherever it leads, trusting that every path belongs to the same creative journey.

As a visual artist and theater maker, Amy Sass creates stories through mixed media paintings and murals. Additionally, she creates masks and puppets, which, according to Sass, “conjure a deep sensual mythology that draws upon the voice of the Mountain. Animals, botanicals, and the human form convey a sense of animist magic.”

Sass makes art to wake herself up, to forge a path, to cross a threshold. She makes art to approach the divine and the untamed, the naked and the raw.

“I make art to surrender to the present moment again and again, to show up with my full self in all its flawed and gifted humanity, to connect with other flawed and gifted humans, and to celebrate life, death and the great epics that occur in our so-called ordinary lives. I make art to live a more courageous life,” confesses Sass.

Her work invites the observer into a mythic realm of possibility, seeking to peel back the layer of the ordinary and invoke a state of transformation. She encourages art enthusiasts to visit her mountain studio and step into a state of wonder.
