Alexander Joseph grew up and now lives again in Gilpin County. After living in China, India, Australia, Costa Rica, the Pacific Northwest, New York City and a few other places Alexander decided to move back to his hometown and make a life here.
Alexander spent much of 2021, and nearly all of his savings and energy, renovating a 1934 cabin in Gilpin County. He now lives in this cabin, surrounded by his books as he is an avid reader and writer.
Alexander has a Master’s degree in creative writing and a Master’s degree in English education. He has had two books published, the poetry chapbook buttons and bones, and the short story collection American Wasteland. His novella, The Last of the Light, is forthcoming in early 2022 from Orison books.
In 2021 Alexander taught middle school, high school and college classes, as well as working at various stores and construction sites. He is currently trying to figure out his next steps as both a writer and a teacher.
He is honored to be able to write poetry for the community in The Mountain-Ear every week. Alexander says that it makes his day every time somebody tells him that they read these poems each week, especially if they say that they like the work.
