In our towns and communities there are some that transcend the mundane in the best possible way. “Big Al” was one of those people taken away, well before their families and loved ones were ready. Alexander Thomas McRae-Schuldt, or “Big Al” to his friends, passed away on February 2, 2022.

According to his family, “Alex Schuldt was an enigmatic rabble rouser with a heart of gold who lived hard and fast and was gentle and kind. Each space he inhabited was filled with his booming voice and generous spirit. He was blessed with a laugh that could brighten the room and a smile that could make the girls swoon. He loved listening to and making music, dancing with wild abandon, late night conversations, dogs, good food, and beautiful women. Big Al was a free spirit whose presence inspired that in others and his zest for life was delightfully infectious. He had the ability to make people feel welcome, heard, and appreciated. His tender heart was always willing to lend a helping hand. A psychedelic warrior known for his mettle; he had a soul that withstood the tests of time. was a dreamer, a lover, a mystic, and a collector of beautiful people. He will be deeply missed by many.”

He identified his religious views as “Love, a born-again Deadhead.” Schuldt pursued many interests, which included being a self- employed artist, welder, jade carver, musician as well as working at Green Fertigation and was the Logistics Manager at Sustainable Village.

“Big Al” was born July 17, 1987, in Algonquin, Illinois. He is survived by his mother Bunny Heftman, father Kelly Schuldt, and stepfathers John Gehr and Steve Heftman; brothers Tyler Gehr, and Mick Gehr; cousin Joe Brancato; his grandparents include Betty Gehr, Gerry Schuldt, and Margo Schuldt.

There will be a service to celebrate Alexander “Big Al” Schuldt on July 2, 2022, at 2 p.m. in Elysian Park and Jamestown Cemetery, in Jamestown.
