Adam Stewart Gresham, age 31, passed away on January 15, 2022, in the town he loved, Nederland, Colorado.
Adam was born on February 15, 1990, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Adam discovered his love of the outdoors while attending Job Corp in Cherokee, North Carolina.
When Adam was younger he was always very athletic. An outdoor enthusiast, competitive swimmer, avid long distance runner and he loved baseball. He joked how he could’ve been the next Michael Phelps if he had stuck with it. He was like a fish in the water and had non-stop energy. He even ran a six minute mile in the fifth grade!
Adam once hiked the Appalachian Trail and talked about the distance he traveled, the remarkable scenery and the folks he met along the way. He had a few favorite regular hikes in and around Nederland. He loved being here in the mountains.
Adam was quite a character, forever trying to make us laugh. He enjoyed many types of music. On a recent trip to the recycling center, Guns-n-Roses Sweet Child of Mine came on the radio. Adam and I belted out the song, as he played air guitar and laughed at ourselves for knowing all the lyrics. He also loved The Lion King and insisted on going to see a live performance. “Hakuna Matata,’’ he’d tell me, “There are no problems. Don’t worry about it.”
He enjoyed cooking and was always trying to perfect recipes.
He gave me a stone for Christmas with the word “Hope” printed on it. He shared, “Hope is the anchor for the soul”. You will forever be in our memories.
He is survived by: Cori Boogaard, close friend; father, Jay Gresham (Lisa) Lexington, Alabama; mother, Kelly Arrowwood, Stanley, North Carolina; brother, Ron Gresham, Florence, Alabama; sisters, Rebecca Gresham, Amanda Gresham, both of Stanley, North Carolina.
A GoFundMe will be set up in his name for a memorial bench to be placed along a local hiking trail. A memorial service will be announced in the spring.
