Imagine focusing in classes all morning, then walking into the school cafeteria – and there in front of you is a table filled with all the toppings for a perfect ice cream sundae! Friendly moms with smiles on their faces ask, “Would you like some ice cream? What toppings would you like?” All this for one simple reason: you are a student or staff member at Nederland Middle-Senior High School (NMSHS).

This was reality for the students and staff at NMSHS during lunch on February 14. The Panther Parents PTA treated everyone to ice cream sundaes on that day when we express our love and care for each other.

The students were pleasantly surprised by this sweet gesture. While thanking the parents for the ice cream, senior Trinity LeBlanc said, “This is the best Valentine’s of my high school life!”

The line was long during both lunch periods and it was estimated by the bowls remaining that at least 200 people were served ice cream sundaes.

Very special care was taken for those with unique dietary needs, as there were gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free options available.

There were many smiles and thank-yous as the students accepted their Valentine’s sweet treat. It was a successful event for the Panther Parents, whose purpose in providing the ice cream sundaes was to make connections and show students and staff that they matter. Panther Parents care!
