I love Colorado! If you read any of my columns, you knew this already. From the first moment I stepped foot in our Centennial State, I was hooked. From the mountains to its history and everything in between, absolutely everything told me that I was finally home.
The more time I spend traveling throughout our state, the more I am intrigued by its exquisiteness. I do not care what anyone else says, nothing is more perfect than Colorado. Here is one of the reasons I believe this.
Nestled in Larimer County, near La Poudre River, is the unincorporated community of Glen Echo. Just recently, they underwent massive amounts of stress between the pandemic and the wildfires of 2020.
Through their struggle, the Glen Echo Resort took a stand in support of the firefighters that were risking their lives to save ours. For three weeks during the scariest time of their lives, they supplied our heroes with food, drinks, and other essentials.
Sadly, the fires forced the entire community to evacuate in September of 2020. It wasn’t until mid-October that anyone was allowed back in. Thanks to the successful efforts of firefighters, Glen Echo survived and is thriving as a quintessential Colorado destination.
Even a moose felt safe and comfortable at the Glen Echo Resort, to stay a couple of months while her baby recovered from an injury. This is when I remind you to admire wildlife from a distance. They, too, have their challenges and need space to recover and survive.
At the resort there are modern or rustic cabins along the Poudre River, one penthouse, 80 RV spots, and a handful of tent campsites available for a night, weekend, or week of pure nature love. When you get tired of roasting marshmallows, hop inside the restaurant and pub for a home cooked meal, or to simply enjoy the decor.
Planning a wedding? You can do that here too. Just don’t be surprised if many of the Colorado celebrities make appearances while you’re exchanging vows. Deer, moose, and bears can be relentless, but they can sure add to the excitement of a memorable day.
Please remember that this is not your ordinary, and in my opinion, boring place. You’re in the middle of nowhere, in the majestic Rocky Mountains. Be patient. Enjoy the downtime that so many people never experience.
I’m a sucker for our colorful state, but throw into the mix places like the Glen Echo Resort and I am certain I have died and gone to heaven. This place is small when compared to others, but the plethora of activities and sites make it feel huge!
It’s the location, the food, amenities, and ambiance that help make this place so special. Above all else, it’s the friendly faces that greet and welcome you with an open heart. Should there ever be words that truly define Colorado hospitality, ambiance, excitement, and beauty, those words would be Glen Echo.
