Dear Editor,
On behalf of the TEENS, Inc. Board, I want to thank the Nederland Board of Trustees for moving forward with a special election on July 30, 2024, to decide on the TEENS, Inc. Special Review Use (SRU) application for a childcare facility on Town-owned property at 750 West 5th Street.
At TEENS, Inc., we believe quality childcare isn’t just important for children and families—it’s essential for the future of our town. While quality early childhood education builds a strong foundation for future learning for children, reliable childcare enables parents—many of whom are teachers and public servants—to work. This support strengthens our schools, boosts economic stability for residents, and increases productivity for businesses, benefitting the entire community. Simply put, investing in our children’s future strengthens our community and builds a stronger foundation for a thriving Nederland.
The upcoming special election gives Nederland residents the chance to weigh in and shape our town’s future. We encourage all eligible voters to consider how the proposed childcare facility can improve our town’s vitality and sustainability.
We are grateful for everyone who supported bringing the TEENS, Inc. SRU application to a special election and our initiative to expand access to childcare. Your passion for this cause and our community is inspiring, and we hope you’ll continue rallying support.
We understand that this matter has sparked a wide range of opinions, and we respect the perspectives of those who have concerns about the location of the facility. Open dialogue and respectful discourse are essential to finding common ground and making informed decisions.
Once again, we thank the Board of Trustees for their dedication to democratic processes. We’re looking forward to participating in the special election and continuing our efforts to provide quality childcare for the Nederland community.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Karowe
