As we get older, life can get challenging in ways we never planned for. As difficult as it may be to accept help, it’s healthy to acknowledge old age as a sensitive phase in which we may need extra care and comfort to lead healthy lives with as little stress as possible.
On Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat in Allenspark hosted Boulder County’s Resource Fair for senior citizens. Several agencies gathered to provide resources on finance programs, housing and human services, veteran services, and legal matters, to name a few.
Representatives at the fair included OUR Center and TRU Pace, the Community Cupboard Food Bank, the Allenspark Lunch Bunch (ALB) program, the Center for People With Disabilities, Boulder Disaster Management, and Boulder County Area Agency On Aging (BCAAA).
The BCAAA delivers, funds, and advocates for services that promote well-being, independence, and dignity for older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, and veterans in Boulder County.
Even if one is medically healthy while in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, it’s also important to keep the mind and soul as fit as the body. Finding age-appropriate events and activities is another way to keep yourself happy, and the BCAAA can help you do that too.
Gilpin County also offers services for senior residents, from senior lunches to low-impact fitness classes and home-delivered meals. Nederland Area Seniors is another great resource for seniors in and near Nederland.
