The spookiest time of year is here! With the pandemic in hindsight, there is a galore of scary things to do that will get your blood pumping: spooky strolls, corn mazes, pumpkin-picking, ghost hunting and a haunted house in a bonafide haunted building.

 

Gilpin Halloween Carnival

The Halloween Carnival is a fun event for our whole mountain community at Gilpin County Elementary School. Everyone is welcome. The event takes place on Friday, October 28, 2022.

There will be a Trick or Treat Street from 5-7 p.m. (bring a non-perishable food item for entry that will be donated to our local food bank), a Carnival with games, activities, prizes, bouncers, and a haunted house from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Concessions for dinner, Dinner Theatre show performed by the MS Theatre class, Online Auction, a Pumpkin Carving Contest and a Costume Contest. Join us for some spook-tacular fun!!

The Online Auction is open to anyone and bidding will begin on October 17 at: gces.betterworld.org/auctions/ gilpin-county-elementary-school

Cottonwood Farms

Located east of Boulder in Lafayette at 10600 Isabelle Road, charming Cottonwood Farms welcomes visitors to borrow from their fleet of little red wagons and load it up with u-pick pumpkins from their fields. Visitors are asked to make a reservation online if possible.

Greet Rocco the donkey, Bentley the miniature horse and a menagerie of other farm animals like chickens and goats. There is also a hand-cut, four-acre corn maze, vintage farm equipment, and hayrides every Saturday and Sunday in October ($5 per person). Admission to the fall market to buy pumpkins and squash is free; admission to the pumpkin patch and activities is $5 (children 5 and under and seniors 65 and over are free).

Munson Farms

Munson Farms located at 7355 Valmont Road in Boulder has a sprawling, u-pick pumpkin patch with sweeping mountain views. Check out the farm stand, overflowing with Indian corn, gourds of every shape, and a rainbow of pumpkin varieties to choose from. Admission is free; pumpkins and produce are priced by the pound.

7th Generation Farm

Another notable patch and family friendly, 7th Generation Farm is located at 1536 Courtesy Road in Louisville. You will find rows of pre-picked pumpkins stacked among vintage farm trucks, or you can stroll out into the field to pick your own. A farm store is stocked with all kinds of produce and goodies. Try a hay bale maze or climb a hay mountain. Entrance to the pumpkin patch and hay bale maze is $5 per person but can go toward the purchase of a pumpkin. Children under 2 are admitted for free.

Bee Hugger Farm

The historic Bee Hugger Farm at 12590 Ute Highway in Longmont has pumpkins for picking, an end-of-season sunflower field with spooky surprises, a haunted Volkswagen Bug Yard, animals to feed and more fall activities. On the weekends you can take a family hayride and do pony rides around the farm. There is no entrance fee, but some activities have a small fee on an honor system. Their shop in a charming Volkswagen bus sells local honey, beeswax and other farm harvests. Pets are not allowed.

Rocky Mountain Pumpkin Ranch

The Rocky Mountain Pumpkin Ranch, located at 9059 Ute Highway in Longmont, caters to young families with a celebration that pairs organic pumpkin picking with activities. This year the Ranch is offering an array of fun for the family, including carnival rides, bounce houses, a hay maze and obstacle courses.

General admission is free, and then you pay for the activities and foods you would like to try. There is a weekday option to purchase a $10 wristband for unlimited activities, available only Monday-Friday.

Gilpin Historical Society

Gilpin Historical Society’s 8th Annual Paranormal Night with the Spirits will be held October 15 and 22 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Haunted Gilpin History Museum. The event is 21 and up and is a guided ghost hunt for the novice and is not open to teams. There will be a ghost hunt, a seminar on spirit communication, door prizes and food.

Tickets are now on sale, call 303-582-5283, $45 each, or couples are $80. There is an extremely limited number of tickets to provide for an intimate investigation. The event is hosted by Spirit Realm Investigative Project as seen on TV! No drugs or alcohol is allowed, as this is a serious event. If interested there are two nights available: Saturday, October 15, and Saturday, October 22.

Stage Stop

Last but not least, the historic Stage Stop is opening its doors for the first time in several years for a haunted house that is sure to scare your socks off since it is taking place in a bona-fide haunted building. From the creators of Spookygrass haunted house at Gold Hill Inn and Haunted Ferncliff, the immersive, three-story walk-through is being held in the evenings on October 21, 22, 28, 29 and 31.

General admission tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for children or students, or you can pay $60 to skip the line. If alcohol is your thing, then you are in the right place to get the boozy bundle which includes admission and a Stage Stopthemed alcoholic drink from the Gold Dirt Distillery tasting room for $35. A sizable portion of Haunted Stage Stop proceeds will be donated to the Timberline Fire Protection District. Meet firefighters on-site and warm up with hot chocolate.

Gilpin Community Center

The Spooky Stroll, hosted by the Gilpin Community Center located at 250 Norton Drive in Black Hawk, is an opportunity for Gilpin kids to enjoy a night of fear-filled fun on October 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In past years there has been trick or treating, games and prizes, facepainting, hayrides and a haunted trail. The annual spooky stroll is a highlight for Gilpin kids and is made possible with the help of many volunteers to staff the trail and activities. Caribou Room

For the adults who want to dress up, the Caribou Room in Nederland at 55 Indian Peaks Drive is hosting a Masquerade Ball, featuring Banshee Tree with Powerlung Rangers. Sign up for the Costume Contest with prizes hosted by Heather Taylor.

The event is Saturday, October 29. Dinner is available with the door opening at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.
