2018-12 Gilpin County Sheriff’s Report

On 12/1/18 a deputy observed a party driving that was under restraint. The party was stopped and arrested for driving under restraint.

On 12/1/18 at approximately 8:31 a.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lawrence Street in Central City. The vehicle had expired temporary plates, and the driver had a suspended driver license. A summons was issued, and the driver made arrangements to have someone pick him and his vehicle up from the scene.

On 12/1/18 at approximately 2:53 p.m., a deputy contacted a vehicle for speeding in approximately the 17500 Block of Highway 119, located in unincorporated Gilpin County. During contact it was determined that the vehicle was displaying fictitious license plates. The driver was issued a summons for speeding and for displaying fictitious license plates.

On 12/2/18 deputies responded to the Century Casino for found drugs. A suspect was identified, arrested and booked into the Gilpin County Jail.

On 12/2/18 a deputy conducted a welfare check in the Century Casino parking garage. During the welfare check drugs were located in the vehicle and a male party was arrested. A female party was also found to be in possession of drugs. This party was later located and arrested. A report was later completed.

On 12/2/18 at approximately 1:26 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop near mile marker two on Highway 119. A summons was issued to the driver for driving with a suspended license.

On 12/2/18 at approximately 3:33 p.m., a deputy responded to 605 Lake Gulch Road in Central City, the KOA campgrounds, on the report of a party who had left the campground without paying. After an investigation, a request for a warrant upon affidavit was submitted for the arrest of the party who did not pay their debt.

On 12/3/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was arrested for DUI and booked into Gilpin Jail.

On 12/3/2018 a deputy assisted a driver who ran out of fuel. The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid drivers license.

On 12/3/18 a deputy responded to a motorist assist at the intersection of D Street and Lawrence Street, Central City. The driver was issued a summons for a traffic violation and a report was later completed.

On 12/3/18 a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of Braecher Park Road, Black Hawk, on a report of a stolen trailer from Gilpin County Public Works. A report was later completed, and the investigation is ongoing.

On 12/3/18 a deputy attempted to contact a male party who had warrants. The male party ran away from the deputy, but the deputy was able to take the male into custody.

On 12/4/18 at approximately 1 p.m., an investigator and Gilpin County Coroner Zane Laubhan responded to a remote area in unincorporated Gilpin County on the report of a body found by Rocky Mountain Rescuers. Nothing suspicious was found regarding the death and the coroner took over the scene and secured the body for his investigation.

On 12/4/18 an off-duty sergeant euthanized a moose that was hit by an unknown motorist on Highway 119 that occurred within unincorporated Gilpin County.

On 12/5/18 a deputy responded to the Grand Z Casino on the report of a theft. A suspect was issued a summons for theft and the item was returned to the owner.

On 12/6/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving the wrong-way on Gregory Street in front of the Grand Z Casino. The driver had a revoked license for several DUI convictions. The driver was issued a summons.

On 12/6/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. The driver was later arrested for DUI.

On 12/7/18 at approximately 10:54 a.m., a deputy assisted a Clear Creek County deputy on a prisoner arrest. The female was placed in custody and transported to Gilpin County Jail.

On 12/7/18 at approximately 12:53 p.m., a female party came to the Gilpin County Sheriff Department to report a theft.

On 12/7/18 a reporting party came to the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office to hand in a wallet and cell phone found beneath a mailbox in the 900 block of South Beaver Creek Road. The ID in the wallet did not belong to anyone local or from the area. Many attempts were made to contact the owner of the wallet, but she never responded. The wallet and cell phone were placed into evidence for safekeeping.

On 12/7/18 at 4:45 p.m., a deputy was completing a new booking and an inmate in the Gilpin County Detention Facility was found to an active warrant.

On 12/8/18 a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the approximate 200 block of Lawrence Street. The vehicle turned into the Century parking garage and failed to yield to the deputy. The vehicle eventually stopped, and two parties were arrested as a result from the stop.

On 12/8/18 at approximately 12:38 p.m., the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office received a report of a cold burglary at Black Hawk Storage located at 26 Jankowski Drive in unincorporated Gilpin County. Two units were damaged, but only one was entered. A PA system and some speakers were stolen. There are no suspects at this time and deputies are investigating.

On 12/8/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. A DUI investigation was conducted, and the driver was subsequently arrested.

On 12/8/18 at approximately 3:49 p.m., a deputy had an abandoned vehicle towed from approximately the 5100 block of the Central City Parkway, located in the incorporated City of Central City. A case report was later completed.

On 12/8/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Gilpin County Jail.

On 12/9/18 a deputy responded to the Century Casino, on the report of a theft. The deputy was able to locate the suspect and the male party was issued a summons. The stolen item was returned to the owner.

On 12/9/18 a deputy was dispatched to the Z-Stop gas station 1351 Highway 119, Gilpin County, and took a report of found counterfeit money. The counterfeit money was confiscated and processed into evidence.

On 12/9/18 at 4:26 p.m., a deputy was notified there was a male party in the lobby to turn himself in on a warrant. A deputy responded and confirmed a felony warrant out of Gilpin County. The male party was brought into the jail and booked into the facility without incident.

On 12/10/18 deputies responded to an assault that occurred at Charlies Bar. The suspect was issued a summons.

On 12/10/18 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a traffic stop at approximately MM 1.3 of Hwy 119 in unincorporated Gilpin County. The driver of the vehicle had a suspended driver license and the license plate on the vehicle was stolen. The stolen license plate was seized as evidence and the driver was issued a summons.

On 12/10/18 at approximately 11:57 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of Wedgewood Road and South Beaver Creek Road, Gilpin County, on a report of a hit in run in which some mail boxes were run over. A report was taken.

On 12/10/18 a deputy was dispatched to a report of a dog at large in the 100 block of Plutus Drive, Black Hawk, unincorporated Gilpin County. The owner was located and later issued a summons.

On 12/10/18 at approximately 6:39 p.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a traffic stop at approximately MM 1.1 of Highway 119. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driver’s license. The deputy issued the driver a summons to court and the driver arranged for alternate transportation.

On 12/11/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 5500 block of Highway 119, Black Hawk. The driver was issued a summons for a traffic violation and a report was later completed.

On 12/11/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Central City. The driver was issued a summons for a traffic violation and a report was later completed.

On 12/12/18 at approximately 8:40 a.m., a male party arrived at the Gilpin County Courtroom with two active out-of-county warrants.

On 12/13/18 at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office received information pertaining to an alleged bomb threat. Upon investigation the threat was unfounded.

On 12/13/18 at approximately 5 p.m., a deputy took a report of a cold vehicle theft from a tow company, which occurred in Gilpin County.

On 12/13/18 at 4:50 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Black Bear Trail, unincorporated Gilpin County, on a disturbance. An investigation disclosed that a verbal argument regarding property lines occurred, but no criminal activity was found. A report was taken.

On 12/13/18 at approximately 17:25 p.m., a deputy observed a car following another car too close on south Hwy 119. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was found to be under restraint. A summons was issued for several violations.

On 12/14/18 at approximately 9:18 p.m., deputies contacted a male party within the 100 block of Main Street in Central City. The male party had been suspected of selling drugs to patrons inside casinos. The party was later found to have multiple arrest warrants and was placed under arrest and processed into jail for the arrest warrants and other local charges.

On 12/15/18 a deputy responded to a R.E.D.D.I. (report every drunk driver immediately) report made by a concerned citizen on south Highway 119. The deputy was able to locate the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for DUI, driving while revoked for three previous DUIs and two warrants. The driver was booked into Gilpin Jail.

On 12/15/18 at approximately 12:02 p.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a welfare check on a vehicle parked near MM 3 of HWY 119. The driver of the vehicle was napping and acknowledged he had just pulled over to take a nap. Upon a clearance, dispatch advised that the driver had a cancelled/denied status on his driver license. The driver was advised to make arrangements for transportation and was issued a summons and proof of service.

On 12/15/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for not having a front license plate. The driver was issued a summons.

On 12/15/18 at 6:11 p.m., a motorist was stopped for an equipment violation on Highway 46 and Highway 119, unincorporated Gilpin County. The driver was found to have a revoked drivers license and was served a summons.

On 12/15/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. The driver was arrested for numerous charges including DUI. The passenger was arrested for violation of a protection order. Both were booked into Gilpin Jail.

On 12/16/18 at approximately 8:25 a.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lawrence Street in Central City. Upon contact the driver was found to have a cancelled/denied driver’s license and did not have current proof of insurance. The driver was issued a summons and a Proof of Service.

On 12/12/18 at approximately 5:50 p.m., deputies responded to B pod for a fight in progress. The pod was locked down for safety. Interviews were conducted, and statements were taken. The victim in the case did not wish to press any charges. The victim was moved into another pod to eliminate any further incident between the two parties.

On 12/17/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Lawrence Street in Central City for speeding and no lights. The driver was arrested for DUI.

On 12/17/18 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 119 and Gamble Gulch Road, Black Hawk. A summons was issued to the driver for driving under restraint.

On 12/17/2018 a deputy responded to 171 Lawrence Street for the report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle has not yet been recovered.

On 12/17/18 at approximately 5:35 p.m., a deputy responded to a residence on a report of a vehicle possibly being broken into. The deputy documented the damage to the vehicle and completed a report for the incident.

On 12/18/2018 a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The driver was later released on summons.

On 12/18/18 a deputy responded to MM 261 on Highway 6 to cover Colorado State Patrol with a stolen vehicle. CSP arrested two parties and impounded the vehicle.

On 12/18/18 a deputy conducted a welfare check in the 100 block of Lawrence Street, Central City. A partys license status was cancelled/denied. The drivers license was seized, and the party was issued a proof of service. A report was later completed.

On 12/18/18 at approximately 6:10 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop. The deputy learned the vehicle was uninsured and still had the license plates from the previous owner affixed. The driver was issued a summons to appear in court.

On 12/18/2018 a deputy took a report of a missing person. The case is active and still under investigation.

On 12/20/18 at approximately 3:05 p.m., a Gilpin County deputy performed a traffic stop in the 300 block of Gregory Street in Central City. Upon contact, the driver admitted to operating his vehicle without an active insurance policy. The driver was issued a summons. On 12/20/18 a purse was found abandoned at the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office lobby. The owner was located, and the property returned.

On 12/21/18 at approximately 3:45 p.m., a deputy working their assigned shift at the Gilpin County Jail, arrested a male party in the Court Clerk’s Office and found suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia on the male party. The male party was booked into the Gilpin County Jail on the warrant and possession of controlled substances, violation of protect order, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On 12/21/18 at approximately 9:50 p.m., a deputy was performing assigned duties at the Gilpin County Detention Center. The deputy informed through shift change that an inmate had a warrant and needed to be booked in on it.

On 12/22/18 at approximately 2:39 p.m., a party arrived at the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office lobby for visitation. A deputy found that the partys driver license was revoked. A proof of service was issued for a revoked drivers license.

On 12/22/18 at approximately 2 p.m., a deputy completed a telephone report regarding an OHV crash that occurred on Forest Service Road.

On 12/22/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. The driver was issued a summons for driving on a cancelled license, no insurance and driving 25 MPH over the speed limit.

On 12/23/18 a deputy contacted a vehicle that had fictitious license plates. The license plates were seized.

On 12/23/18 at approximately 3:50 p.m., the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office received a report of a dog at large near the 400 block of Beethoven Drive. A deputy responded, contacted the reporting party, and took custody of the dog. The dog was brought to the Sheriffs Office but was later transported to Charlies Place.

On 12/23/18 a deputy contacted two males parties flagging down vehicles on Highway 119 by Highway 46. One male party was unlawfully carrying a concealed handgun. The male party was issued a summons and the handgun was seized.

On 12/24/18 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop near MM 1 on Highway 119 in unincorporated Gilpin County. The driver was issued a summons for driving under restraint as a result.

On 12/24/18 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic near MM 8 on the Central City Parkway. A summons was issued to the driver for Driving with a duspended license.

On 12/24/18 at approximately 4:04 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to a cold theft which occurred in the Grand Z Hotel and Casino parking garage, Central City. A report was taken.

On 12/24/18 at approximately 6:45 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Central City Parkway. During the traffic stop the deputy learned that the drivers license was denied through the DMV. The driver was issued a summons to appear in court and a proof of service.

On 12/25/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. A DUI/DUID investigation was conducted and the driver was subsequently arrested.

On 12/25/18 deputies responded to a death investigation at a residence.

On 12/26/18 at 2:11 a.m., deputies responded to MM 1 on Highway 119, unincorporated Gilpin County, on an assist to Colorado State Patrol. A trooper had stopped a vehicle and found that the female passenger had an injury to her face. The female told deputies that she fell in Black Hawk, causing her injury.

On 12/26/18 at approximately 8:50 a.m., a deputy responded to the 1300 block of Damascus Road, Black Hawk, on the report of two suspicious parties. After locating the parties, one of them was found to have multiple warrants, and to be displaying a stolen license plate on his vehicle. The party was arrested and booked into the Gilpin County Jail.

On 12/26/18 a deputy took a report of damaged property at the Gilpin County Transfer Station. Investigation revealed, through surveillance camera footage from the transfer station, that an adult female drove through a steel cable barrier, damaged county property, and illegally dumped trash. The adult female was contacted and agreed to cooperate with reimbursing the county.

On 12/26/18 at approximately 10:51 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to a harassment call to be handled by telephone. The reporting party was contacted via telephone and later contacted the reporting party in person, in the lobby of the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office.

On 12/26/18 at 7:04 p.m., a party called the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office to report that he lost his wallet in the 1300 block of Highway 119, unincorporated Gilpin County.

On 12/27/18 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a deputy attempted to contact an area residence on a welfare check at their residence. Contact was eventually made, and the individual was okay.

On 12/27/18 at 8:01 p.m., a deputy observed a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Highway 119 at MM 16.5 collide with the guardrail. The deputy stopped to check for injuries. When the deputy exited the patrol vehicle, the driver fled southbound. The deputy located the vehicle again on Highway 119 and Karlann Drive. The driver was detained until troopers from the Colorado State Patrol arrived to investigate the accident.

On 12/28/18 a deputy contacted a vehicle parked in the middle of Blue Spruce at Highway 119. A male party in the vehicle was arrested for a warrant out Boulder County.

On 12/28/18 at 7:14 p.m., a deputy responded to a traffic accident on the Central City Parkway, MM 2. The driver reported that he struck an animal. A report was taken.

On 12/28/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Pinecliffe. The driver was issued a summons for driving on a revoked license for three DUI convictions.

On 12/29/18 at 1:23 a.m., a deputy responded to the 100 block of Midway Drive, unincorporated Gilpin County, on a welfare check. A report was completed.

On 12/29/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was issued a summons for driving on a revoked license and not having any insurance.

On 12/29/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was issued a summons for expired license plates over 60 days, altering the license plate and no insurance.

On 12/29/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for having an improperly attached license plate. The driver of the vehicle had a warrant and was taken into custody.

On 12/29/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for having a defective taillight. The driver did not have a valid drivers license and was issued a summons.

On 12/29/18 at approximately 7:18 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to the Grand Z casino for an unruly female patron. The same female party was later found to have an active arrest warrant and was placed under arrest.

On 12/29/18 a deputy stopped a vehicle for no headlights. The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver`s license and was issued a summons.

On 12/29/18 at approximately 10:09 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to the Grand Z casino parking garage for a hit and run motor vehicle accident. A report was generated to document the incident.

On 12/30/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was issued a summons for having a suspended license out of Indiana and not having any insurance.

On 12/30/18 at 10:55 a.m. an individual being cleared for a jail visit was found to be in position of a driver’s license while his driver status showed suspended, the suspension was confirmed, the driver license was confiscated, and a proof of service was issued without an incident.

On 12/30/18 at approximately 2:34 p.m., a deputy noticed a male party walking in the middle of the street in the 500 block of Gregory Street in Central City. Upon contact the male party was found to have a warrant out of Denver County. The male party was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Gilpin County Jail without incident.

On 12/30/18 a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for driving 76 MPH in a posted 40 MPH zone on Highway 119 at MM 17.2. The driver attempted to elude the deputy on Blue Spruce Road and Hornblend Road. The driver was taken into custody and booked into Gilpin Jail for felony DUI and attempting to elude a police officer.

On 12/31/18 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on south Highway 119. The driver was issued a summons for driving on a suspended license and no insurance.

On 12/31/18 at approximately 2:50 p.m., a deputy responded to the Grand-Z casino, on the report of found drugs. A report was taken.

On 12/31/18 a vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. Plates on the vehicle were found to be fictitious. A report was made.
