Sebastian Parra, also known as DJ Guaro, made a mixtape of Latin music for a family party when he was younger. He recounts that everyone fell in love with the mix, including his uncle, who was also a DJ. Parra’s uncle helped him along by giving him a program to mix songs with, and from there, Parra started using his mixes at high school parties. This eventually evolved into his own private parties (“birthdays, weddings, sweet 16s, you name it”), and in the end, he started DJing with his friends in Fort Lauderdale.
Parra has been performing in Colorado for almost two years now. In Florida, he had sold most of his DJing equipment, but in Colorado, he met up with someone who had a group of friends that DJed, and he started DJing with them. A contact of these friends had a residency in Denver, and his love of DJing was reignited there. He now lives in Nederland, where he initially started visiting on his motorcycle, and has DJed at places such as The Train Cars in Ned and Howling Wind in Rollinsville.
Parra loves being able to mix two songs together and experience the feeling of a good drop in the music. He says his grandfather and mother first got him into music in general, where he started learning to play the guitar, eventually transitioning into playing drums and falling in love with the beat. He cites Robbie Rivera as a major influence when it came to electronic music, as was Loco Dice when it came to techhouse. He also has a band called La Mina that does parties as well.
Parra loves the conversation of energy that occurs when he performs live, as he gives energy out to the crowd with his style of mixing and the crowd gives energy back when they start dancing and cheering. He hopes that if anybody takes anything away from his shows, it’s that anything can be remixed into something new. He is available to DJ for parties, clubs, and breweries of all kinds, and hopes to touch people with his mixes in some way.
If you want to see DJ Guaro performing live, be sure to check him out at Eldora, 261 Eldora Ski Road in Nederland, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, starting at 9 a.m.
