Gilpin County artist Gail Watson will be exhibiting her work at the Gilpin County Library in a show titled, “Pastel + Foil on Wood.” The show opens December 17, and runs through February 4.
Gail is an established book artist working in one-of-a-kind and edition artists’ books. Her books are in university and private collections across the country. Her work in letterpress led to explorations of different media and in 2009 she began doing mono prints on bass wood using a press and foil stamper. Her current work on a softer wood enables her to draw into the wood as well as stamp textures and pigment into the surface. Inspiration has come from the natural world, the unseen science of life, and most recently the boulders from Jack Leg drilling competitions found in Colorado’s high country.
