ELDORA MOUNTAIN RESORT – As a sendoff for retiring president and general manager Brent Tregaskis, and to celebrate all of Eldora’s loyal customers and the end of another satisfying ski season, on April 18, 19, and 20 the resort held its annual Pond Skim.
One of Eldora’s most exciting and fun-filled happenings, what had begun as a one-day event in 2017 turned into two days last year, and now filled three full days of pond skimming! Approximately 200 mostly sane people signed up for the privilege of either gliding across the pond or getting soaked in its icy cold waters.
Some dressed up for the occasion, costumed as the Grinch, lifeguards, ballerinas, gorillas, dragons, unicorns, sharks, penguins, chickens, pigs, Easter bunnies, and a Frenchman doing his best to keep his baguette dry.
Others dressed down, wearing nothing but a swimsuit. Once was enough for a few, but the majority of participants chose to engage in the activity repeatedly.
There were a number of skimmers who had no interest in making it to the other side. Their objective was to perform a gnarly aerial maneuver before landing in the pond with a tremendous plop!
And so, we regrettably bid a fond farewell to the skiing and snowboarding season at Eldora, already anticipating the first chair of next season.
