Tawnie Batman enjoys the opportunity to stay in her community in a grounded space. Batman is an esthetician because it fulfills her wish to connect with other women and make their day better. Having her salon located in the same community in which she lives allows her to serve her neighbors.
Batman completed her training and became licensed in 2014. She worked at a top salon in Boulder. This gave her the ability to hone her skills and become an experienced consultant. Her business in Coal Creek Canyon is a one-person salon.
After Covid shut down businesses she realized that she could stop commuting and offer her services in her own community. The local salon opened in August 2020. Currently she offers facial and full body waxing for women, lash and brow tinting, lash lifts and brow lamination. She is anticipating offering facials soon.
Currently she is growing her business and looking to expand her services and serve new clients. The future she dreams of is to stay in the canyon and build her business while building community. This fits the goals for all the woman-owned businesses in the Crescent Village Town Center building. Community is a common thread which all four women in the one building and the other women-owned businesses in the canyon share. They speak of their “Mountain Mama” group that get together to have community time, including working out with a trainer that originated up in the canyon.
Batman says that her goal is to “educate herself on hair growth and removal as well as skin care.” She then wants to pass this knowledge on to others.
After moving to Nederland in the late 1990s and starting to raise her children there, living in Gilpin and making many friends in the Peak to Peak area, she feels she has come “home.” Her family first made the move to Coal Creek Canyon to have more land for their herd of horses, their goats and chickens. A mountain lion got the goats, the chickens were tough to keep healthy and she just rehomed her last horse of five. But Batman is home and plans on staying.
