Dear Editor,
I have been casually following the banter between our county commissioner candidates and their supporters during this election season, and I am beginning to notice an unfortunate trend. Letters in the paper and posts on social media are often met with public doubt about our candidate’s authentic kindness and charitable spirit. It has left me wondering: Why are people so cynical about kindness?
I feel for each local candidate as they experience this criticism of their character. However, I am especially sympathetic to Marie Mornis for the unwarranted remarks about her sincerity. For over 30 years, I have witnessed her exude genuine kindness without expecting anything in return. Kindness isn’t an action; it’s a quality. When someone has this quality, you don’t question the intent of their generous actions. As commissioner, I am confident that Marie will continue to perform genuine acts of kindness and advocate for the greater good in our community, just as she has done for decades before serving as commissioner.
