Some say the eyes are the window to the soul, but how does one reach a heart? Does one spend countless hours interviewing with questions about childhood, romance, and monotonous topics? Or is the heart truly unreachable?
After receiving her Applied Art/ Graphic Design degree, Sally Van Der Kamp gravitated toward color and geometric designs. This pull was the window to an introductory class in stained glass.
“When my interest was piqued by seeing fused glass, I added a kiln to my studio,” Van Der Kamp confesses. She shares, “My glass wall art captures an exciting blend of color and texture using traditional stained glass techniques with fused glass embellishments.”
Van Der Kamp took her first stained glass class many years ago, providing her with a gateway to experiment with different techniques and adding new tools over the years. “I have taken a few classes, but much of my learning has come from reading and research work of glass masters.”
Some of Van Der Kamp’s creations include small suncatchers, large stained glass windows, and mosaic garden stones. Today, she focuses mainly on wall art designs, incorporating stained glass and fused glass embellishments.
Much of her visual inspiration comes from nature. She’s also inspired by the sale of artwork, which eases her soul “knowing that someone else appreciates and enjoys” what she creates.
“All of my designs are original, and many incorporate tree branches. Combining both of my hobbies: working with glass and hiking!”
If the eyes are the window to the soul, one might say art, which lies in the depths of every artist, is the gateway to the heart.
Sally Van Der Kamp’s art is displayed at The Old Gallery in Allenspark. You can find her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/sallyvanderkamp.glass/ or you can give her a call at 303-819-0088.
