"When I was sworn in as the Gilpin County Sheriff, I swore to support the Constitution of The United States and the Constitution of the State of Colorado. The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office will enforce all laws and make arrests based on probable cause regardless of the individual's immigration status. Arrest warrants signed by a judge will be enforced regardless of the immigration status of the individual. We will support all victims and witnesses of crimes regardless of their immigration status.
"The Mission Statement of the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office is: It is the Mission of the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office to serve the citizens and visitors of Gilpin County by providing the highest level of professional law enforcement, detention, and court security that protects and preserves the Constitutional Rights of the people and mandates impartial enforcement of the law. The men and women of the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office are entrusted to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Gilpin County, to preserve the peace, and to prevent crime and disorder in partnership with our community.
"Our Mission Statement does not discriminate based on immigration status as well as other protected classes in the United States. The enforcement of immigration laws is the responsibility of the Federal Governmental Agencies. We will not hold any individual on an ICE Detainer without the detainer signed by a judge.
"The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office will not participate in immigration enforcement, which is a federal responsibility."
