Some words for the week
I wake in the night
it is so dark
and I was dreaming
of being alone
I don’t know what to do
but to stare into blackness
and to feel lonely
and it seems
that the sun
may never rise
that the light will never come
and then from your side
of the bed
I hear you rustling
perhaps half awakened
by my restlessness
somehow you are
attuned to me even in sleep
and you put your arm over me
and pull my back
against your chest
and this is enough for me
all the darkness fades into day
