Some words for the week
the door of my shed
was damaged in the last big snow
and I haven’t had time to fix it
and I don’t know what I’m doing
with my life or my work
or my always waning energy
and I’m watching too much tv
and I’m not writing enough poetry
and I just turned thirty
and I feel like I’ve not done
half of what I thought I would
but my shed door needs fixing
I see it through my kitchen window
as I do the dishes after dinner
and it’s still light out
for another hour at least
and so I take out my hammer
and my drill
and I go out and fix the shed door
and there are birds in the air
I don’t know what kind
but they are singing
and the light is late day gold
and I sit in the dirt
and start my repair
because it needs to be done
and I can do it
