Some words for the week
white buds on grey branches
first looks like new snow
it’s been a long winter
and I’ve forgotten flowers
and hills of full green
I forget that there is grass
beneath the drifts in my yard
that I can walk outside in a t-shirt
and not flinch at the coming cold
there’s a seasonal amnesia
that I fight off every year
that I try to put to paper
impossibility of summer
in the throws of a blizzard
and the july inverse
of wanting to sit by a fire
as the windows frost
and the ground disappears
