Some words for the week
The plow makes a cutaway
of the frozen snowbank
at the roadside
a two foot straight slice
a subtle geology
of this winter
layers of ice and mud and ice
piled almost waist high
in the shade
and absent completely
in the grassy sun spots
I find a fossilized plastic bag
stuck in one of the striations
and I think about time
how everything mimics itself
the way the ice piles up
like the mountains did
how there is a science
to our aging too
the way all our lives
add up in wrinkles
in scars
in miles on the car
in little moments
noticing the snow
before we too melt away
