Some words for the week
I drive up the canyon
under a moon
like a broken shining plate
no stars no streetlights
just me and the truck
and the faint snow drizzle
on the windshield
the side brush of breeze
on the glass
and the gentle growl
of the engine
the only sounds
I drive with my brights on
for these headlights
are almost as old as me
and as I pass other cars
I turn off my brights
as to not blind them
and the best of them
do the same
a subtle signal of humanity
a silent way to say
that while we make our way
alone in the dark
we can help one another along
dimming our lights
momentarily
so that we all can see
just a little further
