Some words for the week
I’m told it’s possible
that the moon
was once a part of earth
and in some cataclysm
our planet split apart
and a piece floated up
into the night sky
still held in our orbit
but grey and beat up
pocked and lonely
hung between the stars
and if this massive thing
is really an earth shard
separated but not gone
still can light up the night
and make the waters rise
if the moon and all its silver glory
is a result of some great breaking
maybe our breaking too
those parts we thought we lost
stay with us, forever around
a new sort of sun
to shine up our darkness
