Peak Perspectives: Expanding our horizons

Posted

A few months ago, I ran an ad looking for a Marketing & Advertising Coordinator. While I had a few applicants, I was excited to receive an email of interest from Lenny Cowles. He is a long-time community member in the Nederland area. He has connections across the region and loves what he is doing. Lenny is learning all of the ropes of the position and working with advertisers to set up marketing plans that fit every budget. If you’d like to speak with Lenny about upcoming advertising specials (weekly ads, Mother’s Day ads, Taste of the Peaks, and more), please email him at ads@themountainear.com or call 303-810-5409.

We are in the process of hiring two new summer interns. Both are students at CU Boulder and are studying journalism. You’ll be hearing from them with story ideas to cover news from May through August. They’re already working on projects you’ll love.

We are also opening our 2023-2024 high school intern positions. Interested students can apply by emailing us at info@themountainear.com.

In the last few months we have welcomed Wes Isenhart, covering local environmental news. As well as recognizing Richard Brandon, who has been contributing photos for a Health & Wellness column for over a year.

Our Podcast is taking off! The Podcast is now in the third year of production and has been adding in new segments every week. The Podcast is produced by Cynthia Davis and Dango Rose. The latest survey is up to tell us what you like, or dislike, about The Mountain-Ear. Please take a moment to fill out the form here. We do this every quarter, to make sure we are covering the news you love. The link can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/shapeYOURnewspaper

We have posted the latest Taste of the Peaks. This is a full guide of all the restaurants, venues, wineries, breweries and distilleries you need to know about in the region. It can be found here: https://www.themtnear.com/pageview/ viewer/taste-of-the-peaks-spring-2023

What does your business do? We promote all of YOUR local businesses. We do this weekly, year round. We are the only print and online publication to hit the stands every Thursday that features the news, schools, businesses, events and more of the entire Peak to Peak region. Check it out at https:// www.themtnear.com for information on how you can be included!

This is so incredibly exciting. The Colorado Historic Newspaper Collection has the next round of The Mountain-Ear available in the digital archive. This is FREE for you to access. This has been a beautiful project to be a part of and was one of our main goals to finish this year. Historical news should be available to everyone. It holds so much of our local institutional knowledge. You can check out October 25, 1977, to December 21, 1995, right here: https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/ and type in The Mountain-Ear.

The next round of papers will be December 28, 1995, to August 8, 2000. It is paid for and will be started soon. Cool stuff about the archive… it’s totally searchable for anything you want to find that has been in the paper over the years. If you want to search for a specific name, you put the name in the search bar and it shows you all articles linked to that name.

As always, The Mountain-Ear is YOUR community source for news. We welcome your thoughtful letters, stories, phone calls and emails. We cover the news YOU want to read, in the communities you love. Peak to Peak.
