The drive down to the airport was long and cold, but the anticipation was building. This was a trip that had almost not happened. One of the kids was sick, and things weren’t lining up for us. But the house was thankfully covered and the pets were well taken care of. The lizard even went to lizard camp for a week.
The flight was pretty basic, comfortable; we had decent seats.
When we got off the plane, we took the shuttle to the ferry and then took the ferry to the island. At that moment, when I stepped on the ferry, reality hits: I’m on vacation. Not only that, this is the first time the kid got to come with. He’s normally taken vacation with his sister for Spring Break.
Walking across the four blocks to the hotel was peaceful, for the island. There are always golf carts and motorcycles zipping around. But, you don’t even notice it. Your destination is in sight.
The trip went well AFTER only about a day of work. I still had final looks at last week’s paper and made sure everything was in. It was. While everyone on staff made this a reality, a few really stood out on their work during this special edition. I want to say a HUGE thanks to Cynthia Davis, Sara Sandstrom, Lynn Hirshman, Omayra Acevedo, Christopher Kelley, Terri Vernon, Sara Banker, Tanya Unger and Rick Rudstrom. The March 30 paper happened because of each of them and their contribution.
I am fully refreshed and rejuvenated and have dived back in and, hey, what the heck, let’s do a 40 pager to catch up all that news that has been happening!
This week you will find the continuation of our series about local churches of the Peak to Peak. Check out stories on pages 20 and 21, as well as the updated worship directory on page 15.
As well, our first Senior Spotlight stories are in. These stories are written by our interns or by the students. They share a little bit about each graduate and their school life at Nederland, Gilpin, Chinook, and other schools of the region.
And of course, there are always our many government stories (check out pages 30 to 39 for tons of new government news). As well as Police and Fire, obituaries, sports, and half a dozen regular columns.
