Each spring soccer season Nederland High School’s and Gilpin High School’s girls’ soccer teams play a game. This year the game was postponed until April 3 because of snow.
Nederland was the host team this season. Boulder Valley Schools had just come back from Spring Break. With hard work, the field was freed from snow. And some middle school students used their lunch time for a few days to clear off as much as they could of the packed feet upon feet of snow that was on the bleachers.
Gilpin School’s soccer coach Sunny Vincent says that she is very excited about the season. “We have a lot of talent on this team and they are really playing well together.” She notes that they have many of the same starters as last year and they “see each other on the field.”
Coach Vincent stated that they have a strong bench – they have varsity and JV teams – and are able to keep the girls fresh throughout games.
Nederland High School’s soccer coach is Luis Gonzalez. He says that on the girls’ team this season there is a combination of some players who have been on the team for a number of years and some who are new. They are working on playing as a team. He asserts that “It is important for everyone to feel important and valued.”
He adds, “One thing I love about this team is how the players with more experience help and support the new players. Ned is always a great family and I am really proud of that.”
Coach Gonzalez knows his players play hard every game and wants the ball at their feet with confidence.
This time around the Gilpin Eagles took home the win with a score of 3-0.
Both teams are hoping for continuing weather conducive to playing the game. They just want to practice outside – and play some soccer!
