Last weekend, I was blessed to attend the National Federation of Press Women convention in Golden. The convention was several days of back to back panels and seminars about news outlets.
I was super excited to show up, network, meet new people and even bring down beautiful donations for the Silent Auction. I want to say a HUGE thank you to Karen Merkins, Helene Arendt, Terri Miller, Tracy Tyrer and Pattie Sabel for donations to the baskets that were brought down for the auction. These items helped raise money for high school journalism programs across the country. This is a special project for me because we have had a high school journalism program for decades (we hire interns and we pay them for their work). It was exciting to be part of supporting this program!
One of the coolest things I learned at the conference was how to step back and watch more. I have a tendency to get too involved in processes, events, local community issues and more. I have been a part of so many organizations in the region. I have a lot of my own opinions about what happens locally and I have not been shy about sharing them. I am continually changing the way I do things and my reaction to situations. This was a great opportunity to learn valuable lessons.
