What is Nederdays?
It’s a new event, based on the idea of “every day being a better day in Nederland.” Taking place in March, it has bloomed as an exciting collaboration among the Town of Nederland, local businesses, and community members – all of whom make Nederland a unique and beautiful place to live and visit.
This is a free two-day event built by the community and for the community, with many activities to watch or to enter. Main events include a sled race, a 5k run, a barn dance, silent disco, and ice sculptures.
You can sled down 1st Street, compete in hot wings or hot sauce contests (at Busey Brews and Tres Gringos, respectively), participate in a scavenger hunt with three quests – all for prizes. Get your caricature done at Kaleidoscope Gallery, build your best snowman, vote for the best ice sculpture, and stroll through town on the hot cocoa trail. Other events include a tug of war and finding the “most beardy.” A wood splitting competition will not only provide a prize for the winner, but will result in the split firewood being donated to those in need.
Children can participate in the Kids’ Writing Competition at Blue Owl Books or the Youth Art Show at Brightwood Music and The Mountain-Ear.
There will be free music performances all around town. Already, 15 music acts have been confirmed, with more coming in every day. You can see performers at Very Nice Brewing Company, Kathmandu, Busey Brews, Covered Wagon, Knotted Root Brewing Company, and Train Cars Coffee & Kava.
While Nederdays is free, some activities may have a charge, such as the 5k run registration or purchase of a keepsake mug to fill up with hot chocolate from locations on the hot cocoa trail. There will be some merchandise for sale, including t-shirts bearing the work of a local artist.
Join in the fun and celebrate Nederdays on Friday, March 24 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to midnight. Watch the website (www.Nederdays.com) for additional activities and event registrations.
