Music of the Mountains: Where to be and what to see

Posted

C.P. Meyer, Doug Armitage, Adam Thompson, and Andy Blaylock have been jamming at various events for years as individual musicians, but as some of them kept running into each other and playing together at different jam sessions, they eventually decided to form a group as the four of them. They named this group Windy Pines, and it officially formed in the spring of 2023. They cite bluegrass, jazz, rock and roll, and swing as some of their favorite styles of music, although they say bluegrass is a particularly strong influence for them.

Oftentimes, they will play cover songs where they’ve completely changed the style of the song. They say that half of the songs they play are covers, with groups such as Phish inspiring their setlist, and that half of the songs they play are completely original.

The band members say that it’s often more comfortable playing in a band environment than as their own solo members, and it opens up plenty of doors of possibilities when it comes to playing in a quartet. It’s inspirational playing such a varied setlist of music, and they love being able to take standards and flip them on their heads.

Often, the setlist changes every performance in order to keep each member of the group on their toes and change things up every performance. They want the audience members that they play for to have a good time each show and encourage them to come back to play more.

They love being able to bring new material to every show, including new songs that they’ve recently written, and they are very excited to present that material to an enthusiastic audience.

Check out Windy Pines’s new single, “Water Shapes Stone,” wherever you stream your music, and be sure to check out the band live at Very Nice Brewing Company, 20 East Lakeview Drive #112 in Nederland, on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 6 p.m.
