Born in Colorado Springs, Christopher Caligaris, otherwise known as Godlazer, comes from a family of performers. He performed with his mother at a young age, and he learned piano by the age of eight. He would also eventually learn guitar, drums, and bass, and went through various bands during his high school years.
He described himself as a metalhead through and through, touring all over Colorado with a metal band during high school. He went to college in Boulder for astrophysics, philosophy, evolutionary biology, and ecology. It was there that he was introduced to the dance scene, and he started playing music that combined elements of dance and metal.
His first album came out around 2010, and eventually, he started performing at local venues such as the Fox Theater before touring internationally as well. He has started taking a step back from performing to run the water plant in Nederland, but he still loves to play now and again.
He cites many influences of house and bass music, including many of the acts that he has played with, such as The Crystal Method, Mark Farina, Break Science, Toadface, Bonobo, Infected Mushroom, and more. He loves collaborating with various people as he performs and he loves the energy he gets from performing live.
At the start of his career, the bass music scene was essentially just getting started, and even though he had studied classical, blues, rock, and jazz music as well, he loved being able to use the computer to create sounds that no one has heard before and arrange music in a way that no one has arranged before.
He wants his audience members to be able to let loose and let go of everything that is happening around them during his shows. He hopes that his audience members can connect to his music by simply having fun.
You can see Godlazer performing live at Eldora, 2861 Eldora Ski Road in Nederland, on Saturday, December 23, 2023, starting at 9 a.m.
