While open mic nights have been going on for years at the Jamestown Mercantile, movie nights only started there in the winter of 2022.
The open mic night is exactly what it sounds like – a chance for local musicians, amateur or professional, who just want to have the pleasure of getting on stage and performing their music. Movie nights are a chance for people to gather together, watch exciting concert films, and talk amongst themselves for a night.
Kurt Dargan says that he loves being able to support local musicians coming together and playing or jamming on the open mic nights. There are always surprises to be had at these nights as the musicians show off their chops. Often those nights will go longer than scheduled because people are having too much fun to stop.
While the Mercantile schedules musicians frequently to play, there is something special about the open mic nights that allows people to let loose and have fun for a night.
Meanwhile, movie nights allow people to get together and hang out while watching concerts and going on at length about the performances. These nights emphasize socializing, getting together with friends and perhaps making new ones, as those in the audience offer their views and opinions of the groups on film. These are some of the most memorable nights at the Mercantile – well worth attending.
A movie night is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, at 5 p.m. at The Jamestown Mercantile, 108 Main Street in Jamestown, and an open mic is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, at 5 p.m. Be sure to head there to check them out for yourself!
