FoxFeather, helmed by Carly Hicks and Laura Paige Stratton, are a fierce duo to be reckoned with, sporting a blend of Blues and Americana, filtered through an Alt-Rock hue. Their sound sways from blissful and inspirational to devious, grieving, even scornful, intent on painting these colors of life with an uncompromising sonic vision. After their 2016 self-titled album was succeeded two years later with their single “Come and Get Me,” they have blazed a trail through the harsh dawn of this new decade of ours, cultivating their talent. In April 2022, their latest album distributed by Octave Records, The Nature of Things, blossomed onto the scene to a litany of glowing praise.
Founded in Boulder in 2013, FoxFeather have enjoyed Colorado as their home, as well as their home for performances, in the last five years, solidifying the group as a local staple in the Colorado Front Range. Often joined by drummer Jay Elliott, guitarist Blake Smith, and bassist Mark Dabrowski, the band is no stranger to versatility and adaptation. Carly and Laura have played as a duo for many shows, but have also performed with as many as seven other musicians sharing the stage with them. According to Carly, when it comes to their live experience, FoxFeather aim “to balance the soft and intimate with the soulful rocking, so be prepared for a roller coaster of emotions.”
The River Arkansas, joining FoxFeather on their trip around the state, is a five-piece Indie-Americana powerhouse. Founded in Pueblo, guitarist and singer Mike Clark, also behind The Haunted Windchimes, pairs the somber with the soaring in a beautiful synergy. Drummer Robin Chestnut is a percussive engine, propelling the band along the river of their namesake, offering a healthy serving of saloon blues and soft acoustic folk with the help of pianist Ben Gallagher, bassist Macon Terry, and violinist Rachel Sliker.
A regular at festivals all across Colorado, their style and substance are undeniable. With three albums and two EPs under their belt, The River Arkansas have been making their mark on the Front Range as far back as 2015. Together with FoxFeather, these stellar Colorado musicians are sure to provide a night to remember.
FoxFeather and The River Arkansas are available on all major music streaming platforms.
